How to describe the pain?

I feel like I am having a hard time describing my pain. As posted earlier, I still haven't been officially diagnosed with a fissure. But bowel movements bring on pain afterward that can last the hours upon hours. The pain is tight, even hurts to the touch on the left outside portion of my anus. Digital exams are near impossible. The pain feel deep, tight, and intertwined with a burn/itch then peaks and lessens constantly. Walking or doing activity seems to make it worse. Does this sound right? So far its been 3.5 months and its been ongoing. Some days great, others awful!

sounds like the sphincter muscle spasms are causing you pain. you should ask to be referred to a CRS and get a sigmoidoscopy or examination under general anaesthetic so they can give you a correct diagnosis. GPs are mostly clueless when it comes to fissures.

Agree with the above!

colonoscopy monday…dreading it, well the prep.

Hi Mardio,
You’ll be alright. I hope Its nothing to worry about. Good luck on your procedure. Just advise your gastroenterologist to be very careful Incase you do have a AF. Most people have no idea what that is. Some think it’s a hemorrhoid which is not anything like.

sometimes if you have a chronic fissure the Specialist will be able to see the beginnings of it from the outside, so it can be an easy diagnosis. but GPs sometimes don’t know /look for this and attempt a digital exam which i know from experience is no fun. but even with a fissure, a colonoscopy with some sedation is surprisingly ok - for me anyway, so please don’t worry. its good to get things checked out.
