How to lose weight on Mirtazapine

I’ve been on Mirtazapine for about 4 years for anxiety and depression. Last year I went off for around 3 months and lost about 8lbs almost immediatley. I’m back on it now, I have always struggled with my weight, but when off of it I become very stressed and confused like due to the abnormal amount of anxiety and probably other medications. My doctor just left and I am talking to a new tomorrow. I feel very stuck. Anyone have any weight loss tips for this drug?

Hi Madison
Have you go for regular jogging,it will help to control your weight gain.

Hi Madison - welcome to the club! I gained two stone (28 pounds) within 6 months, not eating any differently and having been about 119 pounds my whole adult life. I too have searched and searched for ways to lose weight while on Mirt. I did manage to lose a bit earlier this year by being very strict with what I was eating. I followed my own version of a low GI diet, so I cut out anything that was high in sugar. No bread, no potatoes, no cereal and obviously no crisps or biscuits etc but I wasn’t eating those anyway. The only carbs I ate were brown wholegrain rice and grains and legumes. I definitely lost about half a stone and more than that my mood was so much better - I felt great - but it was a huge pain having to cook so much all the time. I think trying to stick to as much non-processed food as possible will help - no hidden sugars - and foods that will keep your blood sugar stable are always a good idea. It’s very tough - I wish you luck xx
