How to Sleep After TKR

Good morning knee cohorts. I'm nearing my 4 week milestone and my recovery has been very good. The one big issue I have is sleeping at night. I don't have a lot of pain, but I just can't get to sleep. It's the one time a day I end up having to take a dihydrocodeine. Can anyone suggest a good, natural sleeping tablet that has worked well so I can replace my dihydrocodeine?

I find a small amount of brandy in hot water and honey.

I did consider that last night 😂

My doc prescribed amitrypiline as it is non habit forming...puts one to sleep naturally and should you wake for nature calls you will go back to sleep. I was suffering anxiety attacks at night and this medication has helped tremendously. I'm nearly 8 weeks post op tkr and although I still have pain at night it is easing up. All the best I hope you find something that works for you

Thank you Lesley - yes, I may go to my GP if I don't find something over the counter that works.  Glad you found something suitable for you.

Morning I am in 6th week and hadn't slep also with heavy cement legs and uncomfortableness not really pain I spoke to my pharmacy and they recommended sleppeeze a one a night sleeping tablet and so glad he did as I had a lovely night sleep last night for the first time in 6 weeks . Hope you get some rest soon .... Jan

Thank you Janet.  Is that working well for you?  Are you medication free, apart from that?

Hi Denise I haven't taken any strong painkillers since week 3 only if I need anything I take paracetamol but generally have no pain in the day it's generally at night where I just can't get comfortable and watch the clock go round and just thought if I take something for a few days to see if I can get in the pattern of sleeping well then not so tired during the day .... hope it helps for you

Thanks Janet, I will try that.  I don't have any pain now, just uncomfortable and restless at night, so no reason to take painkillers anymore.  I will try the Sleepeeze.

Tada!!!

Hi Lesly,

Do you mean Amitriptyline by chance?

Indeed I do! Apologize for the spelling error
