Hi everyone, Roughly almost 24 hours ago my eyes were tired and unfocused and after I got some sleep it seemed better. This was last night. However today my eyes seemed to go out of focus again while playing a video game and I started getting a headache. I stopped and took painkillers which didn't work. I took some more about 3 hours later and they still didn't work. Along with the headache I've been getting bad dizziness which gets worse when I move my head or my eyes and I also had a tingling in my head and the top of my nose along with it. This continued for most of the day and at some point I felt short of breath. That went away but the other symptoms carried on. I was in the bathroom not long ago which was completely dark apart from a patch of light on the side of the door which came from the landing it was like a line. I stared at it for some reason and if I stared at it the bottom part of the line went dark and the light started bending and moving aside leaving it dark where I was originally looking. When I blinked it went back to normal but kept happening if I stared. Bearing in mind this doesn't happen when I look at it straightaway I have to stare at it for a few seconds. The reason I'm worried about the headache is because I sometimes worry it means there's something wrong with my vision which is something I worry about a lot. And I wonder if because I'm constantly checking my vision is okay it's making me see these things when I usually wouldn't if I wasn't constantly thinking about it all the time. I do worry about headaches for other reasons as well because it happens along with bad dizziness it makes me worry about there being a brain problem (which I also worry is causing the vision symptoms) A lot of the time my vision is my main concern. I think it's because my vision is very important to me because I have a lot of hobbies which would become very hard to do if something happened to my vision. I had my vision tested about a year ago and everything was fine (except dry eye) and I do mostly believe my vision IS fine. I just wish I could stop worrying about it all the time. As I also end up googling and often I don't like the results that come up. I often don't notice the vision symptoms when I'm not thinking about them only the headache and dizziness. I think I might be making the vision symptoms happen subconsciously but I'm not sure. By the way I'm 21. I've been told by an ENT doctor I might have visual vertigo (because I get dizzy in open spaces, around tall buildings and in places like supermarkets) dk for sure though. And I've been diagnosed with anxiety for just over a year but had it for 3 years. I think this may have something to do with it but not sure. For some reason my health anxiety is worse when I have loads of time off college I think it's because I'm alone more and there's less distractions from over thinking. Has anyone else had a similar experience and does anyone know how I can stop obsessing about my vision and other things (like I sometimes concentrate too much on my breathing and feel like I can't breathe properly as well. )
hi! since when do you have dry eyes and did the medication cause it? how dry is it?
Hi roughly about a year. Not brought on by any medication. I don’t believe I have it too severely. I have the type when tears evaporate too quickly. Some days I have it worse than others.
If you’ve recently had an eye test and they found no issues, it is likely to be the vertigo mentioned, couple with anxiety symptoms, which can cause severe physical symptoms. I get a lot of tingling in my legs, which on two occasions has spread to my face and fingers, but it went off after an hour or so (which I put down to an anxiety attack).
Do you ever get migraines? I occasionaly get a split screen in my vision, which is a migraine aura (without the headache). It’s like a jagged line of light going across my centre of vision, with everything else going blurry.
Thanks for your reassurance. I’m not sure my optician has speculated I get silent migraines because I see black dots (not floaters) that kind of spin and zig zag into each other in the centre of my vision if I focus on it and if I keep staring it gets bigger. Sometimes I can look away and make myself unsee it but not if it’s a bright white background. So I don’t think they were right. Still don’t know what it is haha.
The migraine symptoms sound quite frightening I bet it feels horrible when it happens.
sounds like an aurora migraine
I PLAY XBOX TO KEEP BUSY WHEN I HAVE ANXIETY IT REALLY HELPS ONCE YOU GET INTO A GAME
I suspect it is the aura from a migraine you are experiencing. I haven’t had one for three years fortunately, but they are a bit scary as the symptoms are the same as a detached retina. However, the latter only happens once and doesn’t change without surgery, so it isn’t that for either of us, especially as both of us have seen an optician recently!
Hi when you feel like this then (if you can) stop using your eyes and rest them for a while. Eyes get tired you know like every part of our bodies sometimes.
Many people these days especially those working on computers or close work will need glasses though not full time but just for reading. This shouldn’t impact on any sports you follow so it’s nothing to worry about. x
You sound like me over thinking every little thing.and i believe this causes most of out problems.but i could be wrong but this is what i believe.i think if we believe enough that something is wrong our body believes it to.and goes into fight or flight.which is a normal response.really thats all a painc attack is.but i feel your pain i go through this every day.seems like every minute of the day.it has taken over and i do not know how to take control back.
Thanks for your help. I wear distance glasses and use them regularly. But my eyes are overworked most of the time as 90% of my daily activities involve screens. So I do think resting my eyes is a good idea. x
