HRT over 60

Hi. I'm 61 and wanted to know if it's to late to start HRT treatment. Been thinking about it for ages but not done anything about due to hearing bad reports about it. But I heard on tv about a natural treatment of HRT to do with yams. Not keen on pumping chemicals into my body. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

The best advice that I think any of us on here can give you as we try to be responsible aswell as helpful. This is a discussion you need to have with your dr. If youve never had hrt then its possible that it could be given to you if your symptoms are debilitating. If you are in UK I believe BHRT is only available via a consultant endocrinologist so you would need to be referred by your dr. It is widely available in US but not UK. Also you could try using high strength menopause vitamin supplement there are loads available. The more expensive ones seem to be higher strength and do appear to help more! Also vit D, B complex, valerian for anxiety and insomnia and for breast tenderness, high strength evening primrose oil. But the best advice I can give would be talk to your dr hun. XXX

Hi shirley,

I've been on bio identical hormone replacement for two and half years now and its the best decision I could have made for myself. I'm going to be 58 in April, started the bios shortly after my periods ended when I was 55. No regrets at all! Best advice I could give you in my opinion is this. Bio Identical hormones over synthetics. Finding the "right" doctor is just as important. I can't stress this enough. Hormone replacement isn't a one size fits all. I'm on many supplements to compliment my hormone replacement. There is wonderful information through books and videos on the use of BHRT to set your mind at ease. I have been in menopause for almost 3 years now and I feel wonderful. Good luck!
