hi all im on patches everil only week 3 and am feeling more down that i was before and anxous too, slightly off colour as well , i read this was a side effect which isnt at all helpful for me , i was wondering if anyone else had this and does it pass , as many side effects do, thanks so much am struggling.
Hi there Debi,
Interesting. I hated the patches when I started them. I got strange tingling in my legs, didn't look good, and got some strange head rushes. But the one thing that drove me crazy is that it was like I could literally feel fat cells growing in my butt. Oh I hated that sensation. Oh ya, and also, I got a tingling on the roof of my mouth, which almost made it feel like I had scalded my mouth.
But only threee weeks in, it might go away after your body adjusts.
I'm also interested to see what other woman say about the patch. What strength are you currently on?
Yes the side effects do pass but each person is different. I was switched to the pill do to muscle pain and anxiety related to it. Has anyone ever tried the oral HRT?
Misty
Is HRT Premerin? if not, what is the difference?
Yes the pill is premerin this has estrogen in it the patch doesn't always have estrogen only progesterone
thank you misty. then I can tell you I am taking the pill. The first month I felt awful. Much, much better the second month. I am experiencing weird side effects. Even a stuffy nose. The other side effects have subsided, but not the stuffy nose yet. Only finishing up second month now. But flashes have gotten 80 percent better. Still can sleep at night though.
iscinny, as you know HRT simply stands for Hormone Replacement Therapy. There are hundred of ways to replace what we lost with menopause, namely our estrogen and progesterone. Some things are what we call bioidentical, meaning the the chemical structure is identical to what our own bodies made. There are plenty of ways to replace with bioidentical estrogen i.e. Estrace pills, patches, vaginal Estrace, and many options with compounded estrogen usually in cream form. And these options just head the list of things available. For progesterone, there are also many options for bioidentical replacement. i.e. Prometrium (oral pills), compounded vaginal suppositories, Crinone (a vaginal product), not to mention the OTC progesterone creams. While this isn't a complete list, it does go to show you that there are many ways to get bioidentical hormones, in many different forms.
Then there is also the category of HRT which are synthetic hormones. Meaning the chemical structure of these are different than what we made naturally. They do have a stronger and longer attachment to our receptors. Some woman love them, and some women not so much. The most commonly known form would be "Premarin" (synthetic estrogen only ) or "Prempro" which is a synthetic estrogen combined with a synthetic progesterone (called a progestin). When we have a uterus, we also need the progestin effect to protect our uterus from cancer, as studies have shown that cancer rates increase with estrogen only, however progestins are protective against cancer of the uterus. So typically, women who have had a hysterectomy (therefore no longer have a uterus) take Premarin, who women with a uterus are given Prempro, for menopause therapies.
So yes, all kinds and forms of hormone replacement are called HRT. However there are big differences between each form, type, how it's taken, and how women feel.
hi debi,. very interesting, I went on evorel and lasted three days. The low mood kicked in after day one and I did not like the feeling at all. Felt so weird, upset and just felt that I couldn't continue to feel like that. I wasn't willing to give it time and removed the patch and next day my mood was fine. Told my doctor and he basically laughed at me. I continued the natural route, just taking a vitamin D3 supplement and omega 3, good diet and exercise and I am so much better. There is no way I could have stuck out these low mood feelings with the patch and now that I've read your post, I think I know now that it would have continued. They say to trial it for 3 months, but I think maybe ask for another type, I just didn't bother due to my doctors attitude!!
