Hi Ladies,
I have just been thinking lately why is it more women are not on HRT?
I have heard a lot about it on tv etc recently and apparently you don't get
any symptoms whilst you are on it.
I have high blood pressure so it is out of the question for me. I don't know
if I would go on it if I could. But no symptoms!!
I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this.
Look forward to your replies☺☺
Most women not all, will get menopause symptoms even after they stop taking HRT whatever the age, whether severe or slight. I believe it is delaying the inevitable
Hi Jokey, me my friend went on HRT for a few weeks and stop it I did not want to be on that stuff since I had a print of the side effects and causes from my doctor....I don't have it severe and I thought I can get through this with out taking to much of anything, to me the menopause is temporary and will subside with time,I also think people have family history of cancer and BP people are scared there is to many warnings on HRT if you can manage to me with out taking it I would advise to stay away from it...but if you are having a hard time getting through it well up to each individual to try it.
Hi Jokey
I am self-employed and am the breadwinner for our family. My menopausal symptoms came on swiftly and severely to the extent that I couldn't sleep and lost all confidence in myself. I therefore chose to go on HRT 5 years ago and haven't regretted it. There are, according to research studies, negatives and positives - I made an informed decision to go onto it and do not want to come off it in the near future.
Hi there,
I've had no choice but to go on HRT due to surgical Menopause.
I've had both Ovaries removed due to large Dermoid Cysts on each.I am mid 40 ' s and was under an Oncologist/Gyn.Obviously surgical menopause is harder to deal with as the brakes have suddenly been slammed on your hormone production.
I felt horrible, lots of my hair fell out and I felt emotionally unstable which is not me at all.
Don't even get me started on the unbearable Hot Flushes, some were like getting into a hot car in the summer where you feel like you can't breathe.
There is breast Cancer in the family and I was told I'm at risk if I don't take HRT and I'm slightly at risk if I do.Also bone density etc can be affected if you're under 51.
Once I'd healed from Surgery I started on HRT just a low dose one to start with.Within 10 days to 2 weeks I started to feel better and my hair stopped falling out.Its like a miracle.I still have some hot flushes but I can cope with that.
I was told that HRT doesn't prolong Menopause. Also an added factor is if you have a husband or partner then intimate relations have to be taken into consideration! I had no urges and everything had changed instantly down there! All vanished now because of a tiny pill.
Honestly I was always someone who didn't want to take HRT and if id naturally gone in Menopause I may not have needed to.
It's all so hard for us ladies but I think if you're not coping well with Peri then talk to a good Gynaecological doctor and go through your options 💖
So if you have an hystectomy do you have to take HRT it frightens me as the gynae specialist is thinking along those lines of a hystectomy and I dont want to take it at the age of 52 next year
Hi Jokey I'm on tibolone a form of hrt but I still get lots of symptoms, hrt dosnt balance your hormones the way your own body did, it only tops up estrogen and progesterone.... If your lucky, it can never replace the complex balance of all of the hormones which are constantly fluctuating during this trying time
Take care xx
are you more at risk of having breast cancer if you take it?
I haven't had a Hysterectomy but I've a few friends who have.If your Ovaries are left in as my friends are then you shouldn't need HRT.My friends were in their 30 ' s when they had Hystorectomy ' s and had no hormone issues until recently due to age really.
If you are 52 now have you gone through or started Menopause?
I was under a Top Onc/Gyn who felt I was at just as much risk by not taking HRT.
There's so many conflicting theories.
We all have the potential to get any Cancers.1 in 2 of us will develop it even if we are not on any medication.
Hi,
I have been researching HRT. What I have learned is that if you do pellets, which are more natural than synthetic, there are more benifits than risks. I am high risk for breast cancer and have had some issues. Never do a synthetic HRT! After my consult with a doctor I feel pellets are the way to go. This is sometimes called BHRT. Which means bioidentical. After some blood work they read your lab work and individualize your hormones . If you want my email I can tell you more and exactly what I'm looking at.
Well thank you all you Ladies. Lots of info and very informative. I think I
understand a bit better the benefits and pitfalls of HRT. I would like to get
the sex drive back but sounds like the side effects could be as bad as the
ones we are getting.
I suppose while I have the hypertension I don't really have a choice
anyway.
All my best wishes to you all. Thanks for being there☺☺☺
It depends on symptoms and lifestyle. I have a friend who thinks HRT is 'the devils work'!!! But in fairness, she does not have a lot going on in her life.
My main sympoms were imsommia, hot flushes, painful sex and just slow of mind. I have a good career and these symptoms were affecting my life. I am 49 and have no intention of giving in at the moment...the menopause has such a adverse affect on body and mind.
My symptoms started to get better 7 days after starting HRT and were gone within a month. Life is better for me on HRT. Good luck x
I am so glad to hear that HRT has made you better.
Thanks for your reply.
All the best to you☺
