So there are a few tricks you can try to prevent that lovely HS aroma. The first one is to use an antimicrobial wash like Hibiclens on the affected areas at least once a day, I usually use it when I shower and that really cuts back on the smell. Before I hit remission, I'd always carry around Hibistat wipes in my purse, which are pads with Hibiclens and they're great for spot treatments on the go. They have gotten pretty expensive over the last few years, so I always cut them up into smaller pieces and put them in a plastic baggy in my purse.
If they're too expensive for your budget, feminine wipes are great too. They're small and discreet and the ones made for sensitive skin work pretty well, just stay away from anything perfumed. I used them whenever I ran out of Hibistat and was waiting for the next batch to be delivered.
Silvabsorb gel also works amazingly well. It's an antimicrobial like Hibiclens, but it's a gel, so it tends to last longer. And it also helps with scarring a bit. The only reason I didn't use it very much, was because I did need to use gauze to keep it from getting all over my clothes, so if you don't want to use gauze, you might want to stick with the Hibiclens.
You didn't specify where your breakouts are, but if they're under your armpits, avoid anti-perspirant like the plague. Deodorant only, and only if you don't have any open wounds. What I liked to do during a particular bad breakout, was rub deodorant on the insides of my clothing where the breakouts were, and tape gauze directly to my shirt and pants over the deodorant so it didn't irritate my skin. Duct tape worked best or cloth tape worked too. Just make sure you remember to take it off before you put it in the washing machine. Seriously.
If you have breakouts in the groin or anal region, taking a bath with about a cup of baking soda tends to help too, make sure the water is really warm.
Occasionally, and this is going to sound weird, but sometimes I'd wear a car air freshener in my pocket or around my neck to help with the smell as well.
Have you been able to identify any triggers for your brekaouts, ie stress, diet, hormones etc?
