hsv (1+2) igm results

i took a blood test about two weeks after an incident of which i believe i could have contracted herpes. My lips tingled a bit but no sores have ever appeared anywhere. doctor said it was likely too early to detect, but wanted to help me, bc i’ve been worried sick about it, so we took test.

4 days later, results come in and negative IgG. Then 3 days later, i get a message about negative IgM. but then about two days after that, I get another message that says my results to IgM antibody were “weakly positive” and it’s “POSSIBLE” i could have HSV but to take a test again in 6 weeks.

i just want to know, what are my chances of not having it here? what i really need to know is, can IgM antibodies result in positive, but it not be herpes? **do they form in response to any other sort of infections or just herpes? **

no. they actually dont. these antibodies are specific to herpes. it is possible to have a false positive with IGM if youve ever had chicken pox. very rare so dont rely on it

igm is for recent or active outbreak u may have tested to soon if its a low positive u should retest in a few months

was is low positive for igm 1 or 2 or both? can you post the actual results? are you concerned that you’ve contracted oral herpes from kissing (tingling lips)?

she said it did not differentiate between the two. i had tingling lips but no sore has ever showed up. this was about 8 months ago. i have been too scared to get checked again and have been a bit of a hermit since…

the result came back at .76 and then the next email from her the result came back as 1.39. why were there two results???
i hear levels from 1.1 to 3 or so are often false and misleading

that is odd and this is the 1st time I’ve heard of this. I recommend getting tested again but do IGG only.
