HSV 1- not sure if genital? Please help shed light.

These past few months have been a rollercoaster of bloodtests, swabs etc.

Essentially, 2 months ago I shaved my genital area, and since then have had random itching, pain etc.

I noticed a bump in my upper pubic region- had it swabbed for herpes- was negative.

Then noticed blister like bumps on my anal area- also had them swabbed- also came back negative.

I also had 2 small dots on the opening of my vagina that were filled with a very white fluid- looked like a pimple with a whitehead- saw 2 doctors who I showed a photo to and they examined, both said it was thrush- put thrush cream on, felt better, so assumed wasn't herpes.

However, these random symptoms of itching etc have been going on for 2 months. I have had IPL lazer treatment and possible folliculitis etc- so not sure if is herpes related, plus surely it wouldn't last 2 months? Plus I don't feel the itching when I am sitting or am in bed, or even when I'm distracted- only when walking in jeans or purposely thinking about the itch.

However, I was very pedantic about it- and insisted a herpes blood test.

It came back negative for HSV 2, but positive for HSV 1.

I have only had 2 boyfriends- and all of us have only ever had sex with virgins. Both boyfriends reported no instance of coldsores.

Similarly, I have also never had a coldsore, or not one that I knew of.

I have had 7 doctors inspect my vagina over the course of the 2 months and not one has suggested herpes.

2 doctors suggested thrush as I had small skin tag looking things near my vagina, but the thrush swab came back negative- so does that suggest maybe herpes?

The past week I have had this constant tingling sort of sensation on the left side of my vulva/labia, and my leg has been tingling/cramping, as well as my left foot. This has been going on nearly 2 weeks.

I guess what I want to know is:

-Even though I have had strange symptoms- what are the chances this is genital hsv type 1?

-I don't ever recall having a coldsore- can you have the hsv 1 virus without any symptoms?

-I waited 2 months to have the blood test and was swabbed twice for herpes (both negative) and had 7 doctors look- do you think i need to go back and have another blood test to make sure its not type 2? I'm pretty adamant it wouldn't be.. I have only had sex with my current boyfriend who also only had sex with another girl when they were both virgins..

-Similarly, if I have been recently swabbed in the anal and upper pubic region, would that detect possible herpes in the vaginal/vulva region? are they sensitive enough?

- What's the upshot of a type 1 diagnosis? Just be cautious but it's probably nothing to worry about?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also had a friend recently stay over and she said she felt a coldsore coming on- she was on my phone/touching it etc, then I touched it and put a tampon in- how likely would this be to cause hsv 1 genital?

Surely it requires skin to skin contact.

Hi there. Yes, HSV1 can come out down south and the virus can lay dormant in the body without symptoms for years. Some people never even have symptoms at all and can go without the their entire life, especially men as it seams to be harder to detect STD's in them.

I seriously doubt it's herpes. You've swabbed negative more than once when you thought you had symptoms, so what more reassurance do you need? The swab is the best for herpes when lesions are present. Also, herpes doesn't persist for two months straight, and tingling is by no means any guarantee that it's herpes.

Sure, you tested positive by blood for HSV1, but if it was the IgM test, then forget it. That test is highly unreliable. If the IgG test, then it only means you carry HSV1 somewhere and that somewhere is probably oral. Many people (two-thirds of the world's population) unknowingly carry it there without symptoms.
