I'm on medicine and didn't know I was infected. Long story short, I have a new boyfriend who is (amazingly) willing to stay with me even though I have it. I can't find any info on whether or not he can get it from me if he gives me oral sex. Once we have sex, I want him to be as protected as possible so we're planning on using condoms and dental dams because I can't find any information about the transmission rates if he gives me oral. Obviously it won't be during an outbreak. Please help.
Also consider daily suppressive therapy if you want maximum risk reduction. Oral sex poses a risk, but not a very big one for HSV2 (especially if you take all precautions), which strongly prefers the genitals. Intercourse is thus the greater risk by far. Those who do get it orally tend to rarely ever outbreak or shed, so it is typically less bothersome than oral HSV1 (note: this is a generalisation based on observed norms; exceptions apply).
