Yes I live in western new york and we got hammered with snow. I am 9 months PO PKR. Was shoveling alot between last night and this morning. I am in terrible pain. Feels like a burning and almost like I tore a ligament (which is impossible because I have the new partial parts). I am freeked out over it. Took a ibuprovan for pain. Any thoughts please greatly appreciated.
realy yeah was thinking I should.. I am iceing at work remembered I had ice packs in freezer from before. I am just beside myself. This is such a pain. Do you always have to be careful forever!!! I just want be normal again.
When I had my hip replaced in 2009, I asked the doc when I could resume playing hockey. After he got past his laughing fit (I had to help him off the floor), he told me that if I quit hockey, my hip would last 25 years; If I continued to play, it would give out in three. Same goes for knees or any replaced joint.
Yes, we can avoid a lot of detrimental activities but accidents are really out of our control. That's why I live in Texas and not New Jersey anymore. The possibility of having a problem with snow, ice, wet leaves, etc. is not a risk I want to take.
In your case, I think there are two possibilities:
1. You just pushed the knee too far with all your shovelling and it swelled up on you.
2. Any twisting motion during the shovelling could have done something bad inside the knee.
Really, only the doc can tell you which one actually happened. For now, ice, elevate, take some anti-inflammatories and stay off the knee. If it all goes away in a day or two and you don't have any funny "internal" sensations, then it may just have been #1, above. If not, ya gotta see the doc. Maybe even an x-ray couldn't hurt.
Wow , interesting story. Thanks for sharing. I really hadn't thought about the snow like that. But it can really be considered quite a workout. . Now I will have to re think it. You do undersand the snow !
Just turned 69. Except for the past 7 years, lived all of that in Brooklyn and then Joisey. Yeah, I know snow...not like Buffalo SNOW but snow nonetheless. With a new knee, hip and back fusion, I'd be very apprehensive about walking on snow or ice.
PS: "I just want be normal again." Sorry, not going to happen. Once you get a new knee, life changes...like in the list in the post. Some idiots go back to skiing and mountain climbing...but they'll end up in the hospital again soon enough. Gotta make new, good choices. Take care of the hardware...
