Hypothyrodism

Hi

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid about 15 years ago however, levothyroxine did not work for me. I was told last year that my thyroid was euthyroid and I did not need any medication, I had to undergo six monthly blood tests to ensure this did not change.

The consultant said she did not now know if I ever had hypothyroidism and it may have been an episode of thyroiditis caused by a viral infection.

I recently had blood tests and they showed by TSH was 2.45 and I have a free T4 of 10.9. I have strongly positive antibodies at 657.3.  My consultant has again said I'm euthyroid and do not need treatment.

My problem is I have severe swelling in my neck, more visible from angles rather than frontal, my symptoms are the same, constant fatigure, dry skin, hair loss, insomnia etc

I am wondering if anyone else has the same symptoms and if it is not thyroid related what it could be?

Thanks

I do understand Very much so Since I was 15 Maybe younger I would go thru bouts of depression and hair loss It kind of went way But it would rear it's head and would see doctors who gave me anti depressants This was all in my 20s when my kids were young Years more wnt by I felt fine I was reading results of my MRI of my neck It mentioned they saw my Thyroid was enlarged But I felt great and had tons of energy Mind you this is an overviw of everything I went thru In 2005 I suddenly just crashed and with the exception of 2010 I have not moved much off my couch I have a bulge in my throat My T4s have been low for years Insomnia took over fatigue etc I gave up I'm on depression meds as well as adderall keep up my energy a little and to keep my dopamine levels up My whole adult life Plus is runs in my family Mu Great Grandma Grandma Mother She really gets cranky without her thyroid medicine And worst of all My27 yr old daughter developed Thyroid cancer She's just now recovering My other daughter is a doctor She thinks doctors don;t ook deep enough at symptoms and ignore them Moreover she knows many things emulate Thyroid problems It angers her that doctors overlok all these issues in women We have better things to do than lay on our couch or go to a doctor for fun It can get better But without my Psychiatrist for me I'd be lost I wish you luck If you ever a question let

me know I have learned more about The Thyroid then I ever wanted to

I could easily of written your post as I have had the same experience as you both. I am 57 & have every symptom of Hashimoto’s. My TPab’s were over 13,000 yet I was told my symptoms were not caused by my thyroid because my TSH is in normal range.

I felt I had the right to know what was causing my debilitating symptoms & then I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. It sux because I am now unable to work, live alone & could lose my home.

There are so many people struggling with Hashimoto’s & other Thyroid issues yet health professionals disregard what people are reporting over & over.

Best wishes for a better future. One day there will be an answer, Just not today....
