I am new to this as so desperate for help. I was diagnosed with low thyroid tissue levels, early stages of adrenal depletion and low B12 with a private doctor in London...he gave me supplements not prescription drugs as better to help kick start your body into helping itself, I was getting better slowly. Unfortunately I had to stop seeing him as ran out of funds. I then approached my GP where they did all the normal blood tests and told me my thyroid was fine (which it is) the low hormones only show up in a 24 urine test which the NHS do not do!! He sent me off with chronic fatigue syndrome leaflets and told me to join a self help group. I am so depressed feel so alone with this. I have 3 beautiful children who I cannot seem to care for properly as most of the time I sleep. I suffer terrible constipation, heart palpitations, anxiety, etc etc I am at a loss as what to do, if anyone could help me I would be so grateful. Thankyou
these are all signs of hypothyroidism. You will need to educate yourself on this condition in order to fight for a proper diagnosis to get the medical help you need. This will be a tough fight but you have three children who need you. Put your dukes up and dig in. Mary Shoman is a thyroid disease advocat in the US You can google her and should find a wealth of information to get you going. You are going to need to heal your adrenals before any thyroid medication will help you. I would try to keep up with adrenal supplements at least for right now. god's speed You can do it!
Oh dear! Sorry to hear you're not faring too well with our National Health Service either jean94997.
I too have been "diagnosed" with chronic fatigue as well as fibromyalgia, PoTS, depression, anaemia... but I know my own body and this is not any one of them (or all)!
Have you tried calling 111, what used to be NHS direct? I rang them in desperation and a nurse called me back within half an hour with very useful information. She advised me to book some blood tests at my GP's surgery if I couldn't get an appointment. Only snag is the surgery refused to check for B12 and thyroid and only did FBC and Ferritin... which came back "satisfactory" and NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED, so I complained and got an appointment to see another GP at the surgery, who is doing tests for thyroid and Hashimoto's. Waiting for test results.
Been suffering with breathlessness and fainting since last July.
I hope you find 111 helpful. Write what you've had to say here down and refer to the tests you had done privately. Ask if you have the supplements you were taking prescribed, if they were helping. I don't think I want to be taking medication if I'm found to have Hashi's - I'm vegan and have allergies to most drugs and have been researching what herbs and natural therapies to do instead. Have you tried a castor oil pack?
Don't feel isolated, we're not alone in this within this group. I've learnt so much in just a few hours by reading other's discussions and replies...yet before last Friday (when I had tests done) had never even heard of Hashimoto's disease.
*ask if you can have the supplements prescribed
Especially if you're exempt from paying.
