Hysteroscopy

Hi ladies

I am going to be having a hysteroscopy soon and feeling a bit anxious. They will try to remove my fibroid at this time and I just would like to know about other people's experiences. My consultant said a small submucosal fibroid won't affect a pregnancy but everywhere I read on the Internet says otherwise. And I'm desperate to conceive! Would like to hear real peoples experiences if possible.

Hi there

I had this procedure done to remove a submucosal fibroid. The benefit was that my periods then were not so heavy afterwards so that was helpful. The submucosal fibroids cause heavy periods and a sort of gushing (sorry if too much info).

I had this done under general so there was a bit of recovery time needed afterwards. I'm afraid I cannot comment on the fertility aspect as I am not looking to have children and am moving closer to menopause time.  Is that your main concern the fertility?  It would be good then to find out more to make sure you are happy before going ahead.

Good luck x

I've had horrific bleeding for a long time Shell unfortunately. I had numerous scans showing indentation into the uterine cavity but this is the first time a scan has shown that it is submucosal. Apparently because it was so large (12cm) before, it can distort the images. So now I have a much smaller submucosal fibroid due to injections every month and my consultant is saying I could just watch and wait now to see what happens. I'm anxious to do this as I don't want to give it any opportunity to grow back and I'm keen to start a family ASAP. My consultant sounded very confident that the fibroid would not affect me carrying a child etc but everything I read online says otherwise!

Hope others will reply on the fertility aspect with a submucosal fibroid. Maybe you can watch and wait and see if can get pregnant before having it removed via hysteroscopy?  Whilst also gaining some more research on the subject. Is your consultant reluctant to remove the fibroid then this way?... I have read they should be less than around 4 - 5cm approx. to be able to be removed via hysteroscopy but you say it has reduced in size. Best wishes. S
