I am 26 years old and developed Alopecia Areata in November 2004. It started with just one well defined patch and pitting of the nails, and a few weeks later I got a further 2. I started using Dermovate and the patches began to recover, but my hair started thinning in general. My hair is now very thin almost all over. The worst places are at the crown and on top of my head. I no longer have pitting of the nails. I had this on the second toe of each foot.
I have been through the mill as far as diagnosis is concerned. I was diagnosed with AGA, and TE before I found out about diffuse alopecia areata. For me this seems the most likely diagnosis, and my most recent Dermatologist agreed. I am still using Dermovate, but am seeing no growth. In fact I am just getting thinner. Unfortunatley there is not much to tell us about diffuse alopecia areata, all I have read is that it tends to be progressive, and that pitting of the nails also means a more sever bout of AA. This freaks me out a little, and I would like to see more information about diffuse alopecia areata if possible.
As for other symtoms, I often get pain in my scalp. I also have sticky eyes almost every morning and have done since this started, and I have tooth decay which I have never suffered from before. Obviously I am not sure if all this is linked. I have also recently been diagnosed with Gilberts disease.
