I am 5 month post right and left hip replacement experiencing severe lower back pain 😔😩.

I had the hip replacements as a result of Osteonecrosis. I didn't have physical therapy as they sent me home with literature to perform exercises on my own. My lower back is killing me. I attempted to schedule an appointment with the surgeon but they suggested I see a spine specialist. I only have experience slight lower back pain with my condition but now its at its worst. Any experience this post hip replacement? I have an appointment to see a spine physician.

Hello I'm almost 10 weeks and I have experience my left hip in pain and lower back pain to where I can't get out of bed. 3 years ago I had a bad car accident. I had the surgery cause I have osteoarthritis. I see my surgeon on monday.

Hi Glam

I had excruciating back pain and the GP gave me a referral to do phsio in a hydrotherapy pool for 6 weeks, twice a week. In the heated pool, initially I did pool push ups which was amazing as I felt it was not going to help me.  I also did other physio exercises and years later I go to the local heated pool and still do these exercises.  I also went to a good chiropractor once a month for 2 years and between the two things, am back pain free. I am currently recovering from hip revision and the problem I have is nerve and tendon damage so will see the surgeon in June to find out the best way to help his new problem.

That's great that you are seeing a specialist around the corner. I hope you find resolutions to your problem. I felt left in the dark about things that can occur after a THR. Thanks for responding.

That's great to hear, I want to try doing the pool therapy. That's good on your joints and you go at your own paste. If my back is not better I'm look into seeing a nerve specialist.

I'm glad you received help for those previous issues that have improved but sheesh now that you have recovered to go through additional things.. I don't know. I feel so left in the dark about what is going on with me

I hope things get better for you. I am wishing and hoping after I see the specialist, which I have to wait almost 2 week, says I can do some PT to resolve my issues. I thank you so much for sharing with me!

dear glam,

warm welcome to this hippies forum where we share our personal stories and experiences .. so sorry to hear this ... I don't know why the after care for post-op THR is almost non existant ...

did you have anterior or posterior approach ... how long was your hospital stay?

I thought that physical therapy right after surgery is part of the process - making sure you can out and in to bed, do your first steps and getting you to go to the bathroom indepently - doing stairs and then discharged ..

did you have your follow up appointment at 6 weeks post-op?

how are you getting on otherwise ?

just come here with any concerns and questions you have, okay ... we are here for you and you are not alone ..

big warm hug

renee

IMO if you have back pain your first port of call should be to a good chiropractor so it is good to hear that it worked for you. If your back is wrong then it has the potential to effect many other parts of the body.

Cheers Richard

Thank you for welcoming me. I had an anterior. Three months apart. No physical therapy. I was supposed to go home with each surgery the next night but I ended stay 3 days due n/v, confusion and drowsiness from the first one and the second one I needed a blood transfusion. My lower back always kind of bothered me since the Osteonecrosis and I thought things were improving but now it's worse. It's not a spasm but I feel like it's in my lower spine. It only improved with standing and laying down, worse with sitting the most. I hope it's something I can fix with physical therapy, hydro therapy but I don't want to have another surgery. Again, I am thankful for this group and the responses. I am glad I am not alone.
