I am 70 and was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis 3 months ago. I had been suffering bouts of ill health for 18 months prior to this diagnosis, i had been given blood teasts, copious breathing tests and was given a 9 month wait for a CT scan. I paid nearly £500 pounds to have a private scan, only to be told by my consultant during my next NHS appointemt, that the results had not been received. I am no nearer to finding out how to help myself than I was 18 months ago. I am finding the illness very ifficult to manage, mentally as well as physically as I am forever feeling tired. My immune system is extremely weak, and as a result I am not able to keep infections at bay. I am given regular doses of antbiotics, but these are only short term solutions. No body seems to be able to inform me as to the prognosis of such a disease.

Hi you have my empathy and sympathy. I'm 74 and up until September 2016 was I thought fit and healthy but following a procedure for a heart problem had a CT scan.  It was then discovered I had lower lobe Bronchiectasis. I was seen by a chest specialist but was not given a treatment plan. My next appointment with the consultant is in July. In the meantime all I was given was a steroid inhaler to be taken twice a day.  I have gone from walking three to four miles a day to having to sit down at the least bit of exertion.  I have not had any support from a respiratory nurse or a referral to a pulmonary rehabilitation group. I know there is no cure for this disease but there are ways of managing the condition alas! nobody seems to want to help. Just remember you are not alone although it might seem like it. I don't know where you live but there is an NHS pulmonary support group near you and you can insist that your GP refers you.  Good Luck and try and keep positive.
