I am about to start on 30mg

I Have been on several anti depressants over the last few years and Psychiatrist has just changed me from sertraline 200mg to 30mg Mirtazapine, bit worried after reading some of the comments, is it OK to take this at night as my Gp has said to take it on a morning

Please don't be worried the first couple weeks r a bit hard as makes u sleepy but it has really helped me and altho I'm not completely fixed I am 10times better then I was I couldn't leave the house was crying all the time and anxiety was through the roof and now things r defo better .....

It has a sedative effect, I cut my tablet in half, I take half at night and half in the day.

I find it more effective that way

I don't have any side effects and have been on 45mg for two years.

It stabilizes my mood and that helps me through the day.

Try and see, it takes two to three weeks to get into your system.

Nope this helps xx

Thanks domdomz its reassuring that you feel better, do you take yours morning or night

I take mine at night but if your anxiety is really really bad then that might b why they told u to take it in morning . Just don't be put off by the sedative effect coz it really does wear off it took about 10 days for

Me I was so worried I wouldn't b able to function on them but they have worked brilliant and they arnt even fully effective yet ..

Thanks Linda831431 thats a good idea cutting it in half I may well try it as I need to be able to carry on as normally as poss as Im Carer for my Husband

Thank you, were you still able to do daily activities when you started on them? I am the main Carer for my Husband and need to be able to function

To be honest they really did floor me wasn't able to do a lot so might be worth seeing if u can get some help for the first week. But u also have to remember things r different for different people or maybe just take them at night they r defo worth the side effects once u get over them .. U will have to let me know how u get on ...

when I was on them(I'm on a different one now) I was told to take them at nite because they make you sleepy. ive always taken mine at nite before I go to bed

Your welcome it works for me, the smaller the dose ie cutting it half the better it works at keeping you stable and your mood remains stable. I psychiatric nurse told me of this and my Dr agreed. Glad I could help xx

Yes you are able to carry out normal tasks ie. look after your husband but you will find you are less, stressed. Don't worry 😊 xxx

Thanks for the info, I know everyone is different but its worrying when you read the majority of comments are commenting on the side effects, what about weight gain I see thats another issue for some

Thanks Dave, it does make sense to have them at night if they make you sleepy just dont get why Gp said to take them on a morning so thats why I thought Id comment on here for some feedback

Brill thanks Linda, if they help then its worth the initial probs, many thanks for your experience of them x

Mirtazazpine is a good drug. It, for me at least, did what it is supposed to. Ad, it is not easy for most people to stop taking once they have been on it for a while. But if you need it, then that is the immediate concern. However, I don't know of anyone who takes it in the morning. I makes you sleepy, that is part of its purpose. I would contac my GP and ask if you can take it at bedtime. I'm no physician, but I have been taking his medicine for years, and was on 45's most of the time. I am ow on 7.5 hat I take at bedtime. Good luck.

Hi Jo.

I also take mine in the evening about a hour before I want to go to sleep. They are fabulous for helping sleep and I have to say that I did t find the side effects to unpleasant. I had also just come off Citalopram with no tapering and still didn't find things unbearable.

I started on 15mg and was a little drowsy for about a week on that dose so my doc increased to 30mg(they have more of a sedative effect at the lower doses and more stimulating at the higher doses)and I'm currently on 45mg which still helps me sleep but I don't feel drowsy through the day.

Ive been on Mirt now for 12 weeks and I haven't gained weight,in fact I'm still losing weight....I've also seen the biggest improvements in the reduction of anxiety and depression while being on 45mg. I was in a bad way before but finally feel like maybe I'm getting somewhere.

I also had a slight increase in anxiety with each dose increase but it only lasted a matter of days.

I think it's a great medication all rounder xxx

Hi Jo

I think your Gp may have given you the wrong advice. Call a pharmacist today and ask their advice. I have been on mirt for three weeks now and they have helped. They are def supposed to be taken at night due to the sedative effect. I take 15 mgs at the mo but seeing my Gp next week who will prob increase it to 30 as I think that's the maintenance dose. Last few days I have not felt to tired so I think I have them in my system now. There are bad reports but equally there are good ones. Keep that in mind.

Hi jobs I'm on 45mg  mirtazapine

Highest dose. See another doctor or ring just have a telephone  conversation because mirtazapine  makes you sleep and it's strong so please take it at night.

The often used alternative  to mistake pine is venaflaxine and that's makes you wired and  awake good for exercising

Both these tablets are the family of SRI

( serotonin  and noradrenaline re uptake inhibiters )

Second line treatment for depression.

You are not alone I accept a higher power  and I give myself to him / her  to  help me.

Hi jo  not jobs

Alternative to mirtazapin

SRNI not SRI

Apologies
