I am having a Gastric Bypass on the 1st of December 2015 in london

hi everyone. As i said i am having a gastric bypass soon in london and i would love to hear from others who have had one done or are in the process like me.

Hello Denise, I have undergone a few tests to find out if I am a qualified cadidate for gastric bypass surgery or not. I am waiting for the results. i'll get them on saturday.. So, lets see what happens....I am quite nervous

Hello Denise and Jose, I am also in the process for a gastric bypass.....at the moment they have put me on a milk only diet which I have been on for 4 weeks and have lost 1st 7lbs but have been given a target of 2 1/2 St first.

NHS healthcare is a long process, with a lot hurdles to jump! I have heard from a few people now who have had the bypass and they have said its the best thing they have ever done. Please do let us know everything, as you go through it, as I hope to encourage and support you all the way.

good luck. this has been a long journey to get to this point but am looking forward to the end results. i had to have a load of stuff done before they agreed. keep with it you will get there. let us know how you get on

Hi Sadie. i am on liver shrinkage as well but not as long as that. i am doing 2 weeks i am having meal replacment shakes. good job with the weight loss i am on about half a stone so far they expect 4/6 kg so have a way to go yet. i am having less that they recommend but also the worst heartburn i have ever experienced. got stuff fom the gp now so it better. just keeping the end goal in site!!. good luck with yours and please keep in touch.

Hello Denise. I am in the early stages of bypass surgery. Have second appointment with surgeon, nutritionist and psychiatrist on 31 Dec. been told to lose some weight to show commitment but only lost 7lb so far. I've been given 3 options, gastric band, roux en y bypass or stomach sleeve. Think I need bypass but under discussion with consultant. Do let us all know how you get on.

Hi Jose,.did you get your results back and how are you feeling about them?

ok so i get a call from the hospital on tuesday to say that my surgery has been cancelled due to the planned dr strike. i am flustrated beyond words and i have had to chase them all the time. no one can tell me yet when it will happen. the story is that they are hoping that the strike will be called off but if not it could be months before i get another slot. i am hoping for the strike to be cancelled.

i guess it is up to you. do what you feel suits your habbits but good luck i hope you have a good journey

Two months post-op. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I should have done it sooner. I didn't mind the post-op diet, not compared to the lovely experience of boxing up all my XXXL clothing. I deliberately bought a few much smaller items in advance and they now fit!

My husband can eat anything w/o gaining weight.....pizza, pasta, ice cream. It didn't even bother me that he ate that stuff while I was eating a thimble full of low fat yogurt.....because the fat was dropping off so fast.

And last....in my support class, not one person regrets the surgery. We are all loving it.

Good luck!

Hi that's great news. well done to you. its so good to hear positive stories . please keep in touch with updates on how you are doing?

Hey all. so my surgery did go ahead in the end. a few very stressful days before it happened. so here i am 3 days post op and its going ok. had a ropey night after surgery and the next day wasn't the best but thursday was fine adn i was ok to go home. the worst part was the noise on the ward. i started off in a side room which was ok but they needed the room for someone else so i was moved on to the main ward. not a wink of sleep did i get. i am not used to sleeping on my back for one and you will need to for a while. still struggling with that a bit but i hope that will ease off soon i feel light headed when i attempt to lie flat and what ever i have drank seems to come back up, i would suggest others think about bringing a travel pillow to sleep with helps with sleeping on your back. lots of small sips of water is the key here. today i had one meal replacment shake. took me almost half a day to finish it. the liquid meds are a bit of a challange to get them all in ( i have never been a fan of taking meds) but over all its been ok so far the staff were lovely and now i am home i have great support and being spoiled!. i will keep you updated.

Hi Denise your just ahead of me, I'm having a gastric by-pass on 22 December so very interested in any tips/advise.  Pleased to hear your coping.

I have an appointment at hospital this week and start the liver reducing diet on Thursday which is not great as I am going to Ireland for 4 days.

Do you think I will be home for christmas??

congrats on getting this far. that will be tough dieting in Ireland (that is where i am from) depending on what hospital you are using that will depend on what diet you do. they all do something different. i had awful heartburn when on mine so look out for that.

i had surgery on the tuesday and after a rough night tuesday night and a bit of a rough wed am i was feeling a lot better on thursday. so i asked to go home ( i was not getting any sleep). take an extra pillow with you or a neck travel pillow. it will depend on how you are feeling i guess. i hope you get home for xmas. please let me know how you are getting on.

hey everyone. so i am now 6 days post op and i am doing ok. struggling to get the recommended intake but am getting there. the soya milk i was using no longer tastes great so i have had to look for another one. contacted my GP today who was not very helpful as i was having a problem with some of the meds i am taking. i have not weighed myself yet this week. i will do it once a week on a friday.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  Will let your know what happens at the hospital tomorrow.

Enjoying your diary, keep it up!

Hi Denise

I'm having my band fitted tomorrow, it's been a long journey but finally the day has arrived.  I was interested to hear that you were in hospital for a couple of days as I've been asked to be at the hospital 7.30 am and told that as it is a morning procedure I will be going home later that day, it's just over an hour travelling and thankfully my husband will be driving.  Were you sick immediately after the op ?  Feeling a little nervous about tomorrow but looking forward to it,

Hi I am on the journey now I have completed the morelife management programme and lost 5% body weight which is one of the qualifying things. I had my 1st 2 appointments and was told I met all criteria. But must lower my blood sugars very difficult and the amount of insulin is awful. I now have to wait till April for the triple appointments. I have asked to be put on the list for cancellations. Glad you got your op I am still in the position that I think that op day will never come. I can't wait to get rid of my diabetes and aches pains and all the med associated with it. It's great to hear all progress discussions and tips.

Well back from Ireland, what an experience being teetotal, never mind I succeeded and kept to the diet.  Counting down to the op on 22 December.

Have you had your first weigh-in?? How are you doing?

November had weigh in and nurse and doctor and managed to maintain. The Dr told me not to worry about the weight so much but increase insulin dangerously high I decreased my insulin as I paranoid I wouldn't get op if I put back on as thyroxine and insulin are known for weight gain. Wish I was where you are. How long did it take you to get this far? I started weight management in June so they say roughly 1 yr from then to op. Sounds awful but I really hoping for a cancellation I am 47 and always ill.x
