For two to three days, I am having mild pain in the left side of my body, especially in the left side of the lower abdomen. I also seem to have a slight discomfort (a feeling of heaviness) in my left bladder. However the pain is not severe but rather just a discomfort. Some weeks ago I had some acute pains in the left side of the back where the kidney is. However, now it is not happening. Am I having a kidney problem?
Have you checked for CKD? As a rule of thumb, your GFR should be approximately equal to 100 minus your age. When I had similar problem, my nephrologist said kidney will never pain. Having said that, the usual suspect would be oxalates deposit in the form of kidney stones trying to pass through the bladder. Try to avoid spinach, chocolate, rhubarb, beets etc which are high in oxalic acid. Also, get tested for oxalic acid crystals (deposit) 24 hr urine test. Sometimes, the discomfort may also be due to constipation. Make sure you are regular in your bowel movement. Closely observe your pain, when you are constipated vs when you are not. Some yoga exercises or acupuncture may help relieve the pain.
Hi Shan
Im impressed with that statistic i.e your GFR should be 100 minus your age! Can you tell me where that info came from as if its true why am I being told I have CKD?
Im 53yrs which equates to a GRF of 47.. bang on! ( at the mo, it goes between 41 and 47)
Does this mean I dont really need to be concerned?
Thanks 😁
Thank you very much for your reply. The problems are significantly higher when I have constipation. Other times it is just a feeling of heavyness on the left side of my back.
