If I fail my assessment and lose ESA I will have to claim IS instead. I think I will lose around £30 per week as a result of losing ESA. I think it's just a way of the govt. saving some cash. Has anyone else been in this position?
Hi, I think it depends if Universal Credit is available in your area.
i failed my esa assessment last October & was told by the lady that phoned me to register with Universal Credit, which is what I have had to do.
Good luck.

Thanks Kim - Universal Credit is rolling out in August in my area. It looks as if, if I fail my 'face to face' and lose the appeal I'll have to claim income support for the time being - which is £29.05 less than ESA.
That’s exactly what happened to me but hopefully you will be successful. As you area is not going to be in your area until August, I would guess you could go through the esa Claim.
good luck. Let us know how you get on.
