I have just received the results of a cholesterol test:
HDL 5.9 (It seems that this is near freak levels?)
LDL 4.7 (I understand this should be under 3)
Triiglycerides 1.7 (I understand this is at the limit)
TChol 11 (More than double the maximum)
Ratio of Tchol to HDL 1.86 (apparently wonderful)
So what is more important? The terrible LDL, the bad triglycerides or the excellent HDL. What about the excessive TChol?
If it matters I am in my late 50s, have normal blood pressure, do not smoke or drink alchohol (so that doesn't explain the HDL) and have a BMI of about 23.5
The test was not done after a 12 hour fast. I had eaten a breakfast of berries, nuts and full cream yogurt about 4 hours before.
I would be very grateful fr any advice or suggestions.
Cholesterol test best done on fasting. So get it done again after you have fasted.
I wouldnt worry my cholesterol was 15.9 and triglycerides 28.5!!!!! I don't drink and smoke very few. I was told triglycerides should be about 1.9. I amnow down to about 5.0 and dictor is happy but I dont want to continue with meds anymore as I feel they have been causing some awful side effects. Yours dont sound tha bad so I personally wouldnt take meds as they bring other problems. If your blood pressure is fine and bmi I a sure there is nothing to wrry about. Take care x
Michael your cholesterol levels are absolutely fine. Your Triglceride isn't high so that's ideal, your HDL is perfect and I assume it's due to diet as going by what you ate for breakfast it's no wonder your levels are great.
