I had just finished typing a response in depth when the website crashed wiping out my response.
Yes it is normal, every day will be different. Try to get off the pain killers as soon as possible, they are just chemicals in your system that are dulling your senses. They do not heal the wounds.
Good luck.

As many will tell you, personal recoveries are so different - one day you make progress, the next you take two steps backward.
Dear Trish
Perhaps you simply overdid it in some way so take it easy for a day or so but gently continue with your exercises.
Good luck, Richard
Hi Trish, recovery is a bit up and down, mine was a bit like that. Take it easy, do your exercises (gently if necessary!) and take your meds. All the best, Judith
Hi Trish: Not unusual at all to have one good day, one not so good day. I am five weeks post-surgery and I'm doing great. Can walk without the cane but keep it with me when I go out just in case. I was terrified before surgery; after surgery I realized while it is major surgery, with the right surgeon and aftercare, you will sail right thru it. Best of luck. Keep us posted! Hugs ~ Janet
Hi Trish,
Warm welcome to the hippies forum -
you are very early in recovery from a major invasive surgery where muscles, tendons, nerves etc. were cut (with posterior approach), joint forcefully dislocated , reaming etc. to have hardware rammed in ...
In addition your leg will be manipulated in all directions as well ..
your body is healing from this trauma and needs time to do so ... you will have good days and not so good days and even bad days .. roller coaster ride and not only physically but also mentally -
A common mistake people make is waiting too long to take pain medication. By the time you’re in pain, you’re starting from behind the eight ball. It takes a lot more medicine to control pain after it’s started as opposed to starting it ahead of time-
It is therefor better to stick to the medication schedule set by the doctor. That will keep medication flowing through your system and your level of pain at a more even and manageable level.
You will be able to do more, like your exercises, walking etc - Pain is not a good healer ...
Listen to your body and be very gentle with Trish ...
big warm hug
