I am wondering if

Anyone can help.  Yesterday I went to the er because I had a bad flare up of GERD.  The dis a ECG and blood tests.  Everything was fine.  Today things are a bit better but I read taking baking powder with half a glass of water is good for GERD. Sorry to be indelicate but had a bowel movement and it was very dark. I have health anxieties so of course I am going crazy.  Also have a lot go gurgling in my bowel and stomached area. Any advice.

My brother drinks the baking soda with water every night before bed and he swears by it.

I had surgery on my leg 9 weeks ago and just got over it recently. I too ended up being n the ER and had every test done. What finally worked (but the recovery took a slow improvement over a week):

I went to a GI specialist for a endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy- could only drink clear liquids for 2 days followed by an enema. Since I was all cleaned out, I felt much better. From there I went from 2 times a day to 1, I drink a milkshake mixture of 1 tablespoon each of:

Acidophilus

Aloe Vera juice

Pure lemon juice.

I feel tons better - this with a long, loving prayer chain!

Best of luck - I hope this helps

Not Baking Powder,, a couple (2 or 3) of teaspoons of Sodium Bicarbonate mixed into half a glass of water and drunk immediately is the way to go  Fizzy burps mean it's working

Hi Lynda, i find cold low fat (semi skimmed or 1% fat) milk helps especially when you have no appetite/feel nauseus because of acid. it soothes as it goes down if you have had reflux, & often settles gurgling & nausea. milk also helps to neutralise acid. I often feel a bit nauseus or no appetite in morning particularly, so my brekkie is often half a pint of milk with my meds & vits! but this is better than nothing at all, & after all milk is a nutritious food just in liquid form. i also take 20mg esomeprazole in morning which controls my acid fine. (esomeprazole is another form of omeprazole which apparently is more effective-dont know why, just told it is favored by gastro doc's). hope this helps.
