Hi all, I am 47 and only in peri but I can't cope with these horrific symptoms much longer, has anybody taken antidepressants with success especially fluoxetine, thank you in advance
Hi Shazza,
I’m 48 and in peri. I’ve been taking Sertraline for about a year now. Started taking it after a severe anxiety attack last year.
It helps keep the anxiety in check. Thankfully I haven’t had an episode in over 6 months.
For all other symptoms I started taking estroven about a month ago. Not sure if it does anything yet, but I’ll give it time.
Wishing you all the best!
Dana
Hi!
My peri started a few years after I had my daughter, and at a super-stressful time in my career. I was 44 then.
I have been on Celexa since then. I don’t regret it at all. I do have hot flashes, but not as bad as many women do, so it’s helped with that. Helps with some anxiety and depression.
It is not a replacement for everything estrogen does, though. There’s a different kind of constant fight-or-flight anxiety that comes with loss of estrogen for me… my body became over-sensitive to EVERYTHING… I added hormone replacement 2 years ago and don’t regret that either.
I hope the meds help in exactly the way you need them to!!
Sara
Thanks both but I have decided against taking prozac, I’ve got enough issues without adding to them.
good decision to not take meds. i am post menopausal and was put on anti depressants. now weaning off (not fun). there has to be something that can help us!!! im searching!
