I can touch my toes!

5 months post-op after thr and an added 2 cm to the operated leg (which had been shorter for many years) and just this week I noticed I can touch my toes on the operated side! This recovery seems to have taken forever so I find a lot of comfort in the little things.  Last week I started sleeping 6 hours at night without waking up.

I still have to walk with a cane for stability and often catch myself walking the way I did before surgery.  Stairs are still very difficult both up and down.  The operated side still has some swelling after I've been up and around a lot.  But the post op problems are becoming less as time goes on.

I just wanted to post a success story. Despite the problems I am still very happy with my new hip. The excruciating pain in my hip and back are gone.  The long term shorter leg problem is resolved.

I wish every replacement surgery had as good an outcome as I have had.  I feel so awful for those with shorter leg complications and nerve and muscle injuries.  You all have my sympathy.

Tiffany,

Really pleased you are having the results from your thr you expected, it gives hope for being able to cut my toe nails in the future. I will be 5 weeks on Wednesday and can walk a few steps without ctutches but know there is no strength there yet. I hope you continue more rapidly with your recovery, good luck.
