Got up this morning felt ok, took my pred and now i am a bag of nerves, cant settle down want to go out feel agitated all the time, is this pred, god hate feeling like this.
Going to get my hubby to take me to Leeds see if that helps, sorry for this feel a bit better for writing it down.
Hi margaret
I think this is normal with preds, I find I have very bad mood swings some days and it takes a lot to get out of it. The worst thing of all is that you don't know why you are feeling that way, all part of it I suppose.
Poor Margaret. PMR IS difficult to deal with, but we have no choice but to grin and bear it. At least your husband is more understanding now - that must help a lot.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Constance
thank you thats just how it feels so i am not going mad then
thank you and the same to you, we are going out so that might help me settle down.
Unfortuneanly Margaret it's one aspect of taking preds that does effect quite a number of us - but - it does improve as you reduce (at least in my case) Hope all goes well - don't let the worry get you on the stress path!
restless but can't settle, go to do something but can't concentrate, pacing but no energy to do anything, can't sit still but need to lie down, need a nana nap but can't fall asleep, go shopping but don't know what to buy (I'm a he), watched an interesting film on tv but fell asleep, read a page in a book but can't remember reading it .......... all upside down and contrary.
I can't imagine being taken to Leeds would be any help, though the limit of my memories is walking with a heavy, pre-the invention of the wheeled, suitcase from Central to City stations in the 1960's to catch a train to Doncaster then Scunthorpe. But if it takes your fancy go for it ...... sorry, sometimes the only thing left to do is laugh. I think a PMR variation of "it only hurts when I laugh" is "I only laugh when it hurts", which in so many ways seems to be most of the time. Enjoy Leeds.
My Mum gets to feel reeeeally down too with these meds Margaret. Quite a bit lately. Just remember that black cloud won't always be over you. I know it's good days and bad with this condition. And yes! Have a treat of your choice today! Tomorrow is a new day. Wishing you well and hang on in there... =)
I experienced a really strange feeling sort of like the earth tilted.
Also felt "wired" Talked to doc and he suggested spliting the dose
taking half in the a.m. and the other half p.m. It worked for me so
might be worth a try. One benefit from being wired is that I lost
some weight even after eating a lot. Pred makes your hungry or at
least it does me
Oops.....meant to say that I started on 20 mg pred so the l0mg that
I took a.m. and p.m. was not a large dose.
Bev - If your mum is having mental health problems because of the pred and pain do get her to discuss it with her GP. There are ways of mitigating most of the side effects of pred and she doesn't have to suffer unnecessarily. It's all about getting the right mix - and a bit of fiddling will often achieve a lot.
Unfortunately, it is part of it!
Well Margaret I thought going on pred was awful.side effects.but trying to go down in dosage is pure hell but pred works very well to manage symtoms as someone said a deal with the devil.
Done properly and with care reduction need not be "pure hell" - how are you going about it if it is so bad?
Well I am doing 9.5 mg in the slow eduction method given to me by Oregonjohn 9.5 followed by 6 days of 10 etc. Iam trying it did 2 days of 9.5 and back to 10 but for some reason the 9.5 makes me feel lightheaded and off balance just bad it is hard to believe that such asmall reduction could have this effect that said I am very sensitive to medications in general.
I understand that when going below 10 it tends to get "tricky". Even .5 mg would make such a difference? I have to learn the ropes because I am fairly new at this. I am now reducing by 1 mg from 16 to 15, and was not successful. I am going to go back to 16 for a month and will stay there.
Carol good luck with your endeavour.
Thank you and good luck to you.
Then stick at the 9.5 one day, 10mg one day for a while before trying to go further - your body is obviously not yet ready to have 2 consecutive days at 9.5mg. That is the whole point of the slow reduction - I wrote a post a long time ago called "how much difference 1/2mg can make" and it was as a result of those experiences I went on the develop the "Dead slow..." reduction.
And if you have so much difficulty - not only use the very slow technique but also make sure you are resting enough. Although the usual figure quoted for the adrenals having to start to work again is about 8mg, in some people it can be more or less and it is possible this is your point. Getting below 10mg very often causes problems so just stay at alternate days old/new for a while and then try the next step to get to 9.5mg every day again.
