only me again. i felt this week like its all goin back to square one again.. ive been on citalopram nearly 9 weeks.. done 4 weeks at 10 mg and nearly 5 weeks at 20mg and im feeling this burning sensation of anxiety again..i just need some reassurance this is a blip and is normal..i was or thought i was doing a little better and bang bk to this again the dark thoughts etc..please tell me this will get better
if you felt like you were starting to feel a little better and then crashed its definitely a blip x
count recovery from your last dose change so 5 weeks and that’s still super super early.
that burning anxiety is horrible I get that also x
but its definitely a blip x
last time round my blips were still happening past 8 weeks
so keep going ![]()
I’m on sertraline but feel exactly the same. 4 weeks in haven’t actually improved at all but this last week feeling really depressed , get intrusive thoughts that have got lot worse don’t really want to leave the house. Wondering if I should come off it. Had to come off citalopram because made my hair fall was on that for 8 weeks didn’t help at all. Just really worried it’s making me feel worse felt better a few months ago than I do now it’s difficult dilemma!.
I know of 3 friends who got a lot better on citalopram in it’s defence so probably worth you sticking it out as all meds seem to take a while to work. I’m thinking of slightly lowering my dose see if makes me feel any better. hope you soon improve!
Hi Laura,
Sorry to hear about your blip. I had one two nights ago as well! I went weeks without any adverse effects then was woken up 3 times with hot flashes (which for a guy, who is not going through the changes, was terrifying!).
I am in much better spirits overall although that burning anxiety really set me up for very difficult mental health day yesterday.
All the best in moving forward!
Matt
thank u..thats very reassuring.. i hope this eases soon
thats how I feel too..somedaays i wish id never started it
thank you hope you continue to feel better.. that burning is awful.. wish to God it would ease..good luck
thank u..i hope so.. i no some days feeling worse makes the whole thing outta control..il stick it out thnx
i reduce to ten and felt so much better.
how long were u on 20 til u reduced.. i started at 10 for 4 weeks and started to feel better then doc upped me to 20 and felt ok with no side effects until past few days..
5th and 6th weeks were the worse for me. only now I am seeing some improvements I am on cit 8 weeks on 20mg now. you will have these blips its normal part of recovery unfortunately. I know it gets you down and makes you feel soo bad and start losing hope this is very familiar to me. i am myself going through couple of rough days now. it’s hard to tell yourself that it will pass when you are feeling anxious particularly after feeling okay for some time. it will pass though recovery is long process with many ups and downs. dont switch to a different med or up your dose just stay on 20 for as long as possible I would say stay on this dose for at least 6 more weeks.
four weeks
i will stay on the 20mg.. when i switched to 20mg i thought i would have side effects but i didnt.. somedays just feel like it never goin away.. i had a few good weeks after horrendous weeks..scared this wont go away.. hope you feel better soon xx
hi laura i was like that last week - 7 weeks on 20. was really depressed and anxious and emotional after feeling a bit better the week before. everyone has assured me its a blip and part of recovery and lots of people say they get them on and off for months and thats normal
i think we are all the same - its much harder when youve been feeling a bit better but then crash again. we all start thinking oh no the meds arent working im not going to get any better than this but it will it just takes time
Everyone seems to normally up their dose but you found lowering it made you feel better. the sertraline in 50mg took 3/4 of tablet last night try it fir week or so see if I improve. Must say lot people seem to have blips at 4 OR 5 WEeks, just don’T how long to leave if before i decide it’s not helping!
Hope you soon feel better Laura I’M going to try lowering my dose as Lois said it helped her. All a bit trial and error isn’T it. Trying 3/4 of tablet for week or so hope you soon improve.
hope all goes well for you..il stuck my dose til after 6 weeks and hoping this is just a blip..good luck
Hope you soon feel better, I’ll try 3/4 tablet for 4 weeks see how I get on as 8 weeks seems to be when lot people see bit improvement. Just out of interest why did you increase your dose ? Was it because 10mg wasn’t working ?
