Not ganna make this to long because most of u that had this will probably know. I need answers( someone plz help me) I’m on day 2 had no bowel movement and I know/feel like I could then the pain is just so bad, feels like I’m getting stabbed with a knife. I even ate regular food and my stool soften and some mirlax and still cannot go. I know there is cloth up in my butt. When does that come out? After first bowel movement? Can I pull it out if I get my fingers up there? I know that is what is making this harder to let gas go. I’m just loaded with gas. Is it normal if I still don’t go to the bathroom on day 3?
I’m one month post op and it took me 5 days to have a BM, miralax worked for me but my dr had told me to take milk of magnesia if it didn’t work. The first BM was very very painful for me, when I needed to go for the second time I think I paced my house for hours avoiding it but the second time was a lot easier. I didn’t have anything in my rectum so I was able to release gas the first few days so I wasn’t as bloated. I’m sorry I couldn’t be much help in that dept. hang in there!
Get on some sort lax ASAP last week hing you need is any sort of bunging up as will make your body push
What did your doctor tell you after your operation?
Have you had internal ones cut out ?
Did you not get stickes?
You should have been given some medication for BM, I was given lactulose and fybogel which really helped me.
You should be eating a high fibre diet and drink plenty of water.
For breakfast I ate bran flakes and added either raspberries or blackberries this helps me.
Thank you for your response, I know I have to go , it just won’t come out now if I use more mirlax is it ganna be a huge mess? And I figured it is ganna be painful. This is so awful. And ok I thought I haven’t went in 3days was not normal , how long to you fully recovered. And last thing when I have my first bowel movement I really hope it is like water, not chunks?? Hi Mary thanks for respond. I did not have stitches, and yes they were 3 huge internal , I am Taking lactulose , and some miralax that I added. And to be honest I ate hard stuff I had potbelly’s sandwich and a bacon and n cheese sandwich, I know it’s not good for that food. I just really want to get this first bowel movement out, there is so much inside me, food, liquid, I just don’t hope it’s a heavy first bowel movement, the medicine should make it like water ? What u think. I just no there is gauze up there that is stopping me from letting gas out. I’m in so much pain right now
My body wants to push I am sorta stopping it if u know what I mean because I can tell how painful it is ganna be.
Sorry to bother u. 1 other question u did have gauze up ur anus right? Does that come out the first bowel movement. And i know u said it’s a very painful first bowel movement but how does it come out like water, or thick /hard

Dan, I feel your pain! I had surgery last week. I would recommend calling your doctor but mine told me, “if I did not have a BM after 2 days at home, I could take the gauze out myself”. I don’t want to freak you out but I ended up having to go to the ER to have them help me get the gauze out, I tried in the shower but by the time the gauze was starting to go down the drain, and still inside me, I couldn’t pull anymore and headed to the hospital. I think this is rather abnormal from what I have read however. If your doctor says you can take it out, I recommend getting in the shower to do this and let the water run over you as you gently pull it out. Hope all works out!!
I did not have a gauze, the first BM was normal (not soft) and yes it’s painful, don’t push. Second BM was softer and it was more of a stinging sensation than pain. I know this sounds gross but have you tried having a BM in a sitz bath? I’ve heard of that helping some people, I’ve just gone normally on te toilet. Are you taking a stool softener?

Thanks jason I hope u get better also! And I honestly think that is the biggest problem /the gauze, it’s not letting me get my gas threw. My doctor told me not to pull it out. But my dad had his done years ago and he pulled his out and filled the tub with blood, but was a lot easier to let gas go and finally have bowel movement. I can’t even feel the end of the gauze with my finger. It must be really far up. Thanks for ur respond. This just sucks so bad
Ok Mary thanks I just think this gauze is causing me not to let the gas get threw and that’s y the pain is worse. I don’t know what to do. I can’t even take it anymore Thanks for responding!

Yes I tried on the sith bath and in my regular bath. Just ain’t getting nothin out and I have a bunch of food in me that should be coming out, so I shouldn’t push at all? And yes I am on stool softener. Just seems like nothing is working, u said u had ur first bowel movement after how many days after surgery?
It took me 5 days but I wasn’t having much food at all so I didn’t even have bloat from not going so the dr wasn’t worried when he checked me. I would really try to follow up with the dr to see if they can help with the gauze.
