Hi,
I'm 22 years old male and have been experiencing colon problem in the last one month. My bowel habit has changed. My stool is sometimes watery, pencil thin and sometimes normal. I am also experiencing lower right abdominal pain which come and go but not very often. I'm experiencing back pain and headache currently.
I went to doctor twice and he said nothing serious, and it was only anxiety. I also had ultrasound which showed nothing. Really appreciate to know what you guys think about it. I'm kinda anxious about this
Ask your doctor about IBS. Was your gallbladder checked as well?
IBS symptoms can come after a stomach (gasteritis) or other GI infection. Also I heard about overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine also causes IBS. Did your doctor take a history asking about any recent stomach problems?
Hi
I have had thin stools and woe like stools always on the softer side for 6 months after a bacterial infection
One thing my doctor said if there was a runout the thin stools would not change they'd be the same everyday so if yours is normal some days is a good sign
Stress doesn't help also certain foods
Just have your doctor do a colonoscopy just so you can feel at ease
I just had one after worrying myself senseless but no cancer.
Had some biopsies taken for celiac pylor and colitis
Doctor thinks I have PI IBS OR Sibo
Take care and relax
I have checked to the doctor earlier today and will have the colonoscopy on Friday. Hopefully nothing serious is there.
I just went to gastro doc today and he asked about the problem so he planned a colonoscopy to make sure everything is fine with me. Hopefully it will be fine
Hi rhonda,
Will have the colonoscopy on Friday to make sure everything is fine. So far doctor diagnosed me with collitis. Hopefully all things will fine
Hope all will be fine
One of the biopsies I had was for colitis so it will be interesting if my problem is that too
Goodluck Friday
Good idea about the colonoscopy. There is a forum for this which I suggest you read, just to prepare you for the prep, which is worse than the procedure. Most people find the procedure a bit uncomfortable but if everything is fine, that should be all. Best wishes.
Good. A colonoscopy is the "go to" intervention today to rule out inflammatory bowel disease, such as colitis. It's a very routine procedure these days and it is a needed step in the diagnosis of IBS. Be sure that all of your questions are answered by your doctor and that you feel comfortable and informed that this is the right decision for your care. Good luck and keep us posted.
Jendryhutama - I just saw that you said the doctor diagnosed colitis. What test(s) did the doctor do to diagnose this or is it a preliminary diagnosis in order to justify the colonoscopy procedure? Also, I agree with felinia on checking out the forum for comments on the prep. There are different ones and people tolerate them differently. The procedure itself (I've probably had at least ten of them) has never been uncomfortable for me. I've had them with a high dose of sedative (like valium) as well as under a semi-general anesthetic.
I wish I could help you, but I can barely help myself. I hope what you have IS nothing. Even if it's from anxiety, it's a frustrating, horrible problem. However, I do think you should try to get a second opinion. This doctor didn't seem to really care. Do any of them?
Not everyone needs a colonoscopy to diagnose IBS. They only tend to do this procedure if you have alarm symptoms or if you are 50 or over and you have never had bowel symptoms before. Some people ask for one because they are very anxious and they want absolute proof that nothing else is wrong. Sometimes this helps their worries when they find out it is clear.
With me, I was given a fecal calprotectin stool test which looks for high inflammation markers that might suggest IBD or another bowel condition. If you test positive for inflammation but your reading is only slighly high, they repeat the test to see if the reading goes down on its own. If your result is very high, a colonoscopy is ordered.
In my case, my fecal calprotectin test was normal so I was diagnosed with IBS without a colonoscopy. Everyone is different; it depends on the symptoms you present with.
Hi Pippa - I sent you a private e-mail.
I would suggest when doing the prep to avoid likes use vasoline and baby wipes.' I got a like the other day doing the prep and going too much
Goodluck
I meant to say I got a pile
Hi all,
Thanks for all of ur kind words and information. I just had the colonoscopy done this morning and thanks God nothing serious was found.
I diagnosed with Internal Hemmoroids grade 2 which caused my stool shaped thin and also a collitis which showed by inflammated bowel. Biopsy was taken to see the growing infection on my Bowel.
For me the preparation of colonoscopy is just terrible because the liquid they gave to me made me went to toilet like almost 20 times yesterday, the procedure itself was just fine. Once again thanks everyone for ur information and kind words
So glad nothing serious what did they suggest for the colitis?
Any medication. Or diet?
Cheers and now rest easy
I hope that the results of the inflammed area biopsy are favorable too. My elderly mother had one bout of ischemic colitis which was serious enough to land her in the hospital (because she ignored symptoms), but it never occurred again. I have a chronic inflammatory bowel disease as did my late father-in-law and a nephew and these are treatable! I was just a little older than you when I was diagnosed and am now 62. Just so you know - there's a difference between an inflammation in the bowel and an infection. Be sure that you get your doctor to clarify whether you have an infection or an inflammation (or both). Some tests you had done before the colonoscopy may have been for an infection in the bowel caused by overgrowth of so-called bad bacteria that normally live in the bowel. I don't know anything about inflammation of the bowel that results from infection, but the biopsy results should clear things up.
Hoping all is good.
Hi rhonda,
I'm currently taking Salofalk for the collitis and Venosmil for the hemmoroids. Doctor suggested me to minimise consumption of spicy and sour foods for a while (I am living in Indonesia and the foods here are many in seasonings).
Thank you and I hope all is well also to you
