I got facial shingles over 100 days ago still have rash, pain and numbness

Is there anyone out there that can help me with some answers?   My MRI showed all 3 facial nerves on the right side of my face were inflamed.  Diagnosed with a severe case of shingles.  I am 72 and I thought in very good health, although I had breast cancer in Sept 14 and radiation in 2014 also and had just started my anastrazole 3 weeks before getting shingles in Jan 15.  I had 2 rounds of Valtrex immediately, and after 1 month went on 2700 mg of neurontin and 20 mg of nortriptaline.  Nothing seems to help with pain and numbness.  Has anyone out  there had  anything similar to this and what has been your outcome?

Hi Patricia

I'm so sorry you've had a lot to endure, my sympathy goes out to you.

I personally haven't experienced facial shingles although I have had shingles in the past but touch wood only the once. I can only suggest that you request your Dr put you on a different medication. Even though you have facial shingles your nerves are still inflamed which is obviously causing the pain and therefore surely the first step would be to put you on inflammatory tablets. I'm not sure if any of the medication youre taking now is one for inflammatory or not. Also tell your Dr that you're still in pain.

Im sorry I can't be of more help but do let us know how you get on. Good luck.

Kind regards

Gloriana

Hi Gloriana. It's good to see you are still dispensing words of wisdom ,and showing empathy for others worse off than you.Even if you can't help you always drop a few words of encouragement.God bless you..

Hi Patricia. You sure are having a bad time. I can relate to shingles as it came when I used tablets to give up smoking a long time ago.Its a nerve condition .Are you with a neurologist ?  I hand Trigeminal Neuralgia .It's facial pain too. How long in time was 2700 mg of neurontin? I take same thing, 2x75mg per day only called Lyrica in Australia. In bad pain times I take oxycodone so you can ask your doc for that but not all the time,  of courseof course you can cut it in half to make go further.I have only 5 mg but will ask for stronger.    Take notice of Gloriana's advice. She replies very wisely. Best wishes. Let us know how you get on .

Shingles is often connected with TN but this could go and never return.

I've heard in UK there's now an antidote for

Shingle
