Four weeks ago I had a hysterectomy (ovaries not removed) and was postmenopausal however now having menopausal symptoms. At the moment I am calling them Power Burst's that last for approx 20 secs and I feel that my whole body is on fire.
So, I went to see my Doctor re the problem. I was told that he did not give out scrips for HRT and to go to the Health Food shop!!!
Advise please as to anything that will help me

I thought all doctors could prescribe hrt.that's shocking. Hope you get some joy elsewhere. The sweats are awful aren't they. I'm 4 and a half weeks post op, they took the lot, ovaries too, but I'm having short bursts of sweats and was given the hrt patches. Still getting sweats but don't know if it takes a while to get into the system.X
Hi Jo,
Sorry can't advice you about your menopause symptoms, but I suggest you change your doctor! He sounds like an arrogant jerk and shouldn't be a practising GP. Even if he thinks or has reason to believe your not suitable for HRT there are ways to tell you. The days of doctors believing their gods has long passed!
I think I saw an artical on hysteresisters re alternative treatments, but it is an American site. You could try the health food shops.
Hope you get yourself sorted

Hi jo.I'm 4 weeks post op on Thursday. Had tah with ovaries removed too.I'm 50.Went to Dr's last week to discuss hrt. (Saw a lady, glad I did now),she was really helpful.I'm getting night sweats,In and out of the covers all night, but I can cope for now.I decided not to take Hrt,Dr suggested evening primrose and red clover from herbal shop.still to look into the red clover. Don't know if anyone has tried it.Would be interested to hear if they have.all the best Karen x

Hi Jo
I would definitely change your doctor if your symptoms continue and over the counter stuff doesn't work. I suffered some awful symptoms during the menopause and as I had suffered post natal depression after both my children were born (treated on a trial with HRT), I was told there was a risk of depression during menopause and sure enough I got it. I went to my doctor for HRT and he said he was reluctant to prescribe it (covering his back because of the all the bad press about risk of thrombosis etc). I did some research and found that although there were increased risks, they were still minimal, so I went back and insisted on HRT - I said I was prepared to take the risk to improve my quality of life which was zero at that time. He then agreed to prescribe it and it helped me enormously.
Don't give up - put your foot down and insist!!
Good luck

Hi jo so sorry to hear u started the dreaded flushes. I definitely thibk you should see a female doctor or change doctors. My ovaries were left but they took my fallopian tubes. They did warn me i ciukd start menopause a lot sooner but fortunately fingers crossed nothing yet. I will be 4 wks post op on monday. The hysterectomy association is a goid place for advice. Hope you get sorted lovely. Xx
