Hello All,
I had a nervous breakdown about 9months ago. Extreme anxiety, depression, extreme fear for no reason, rapid heart rate , racing thoughts and paranoia. I've always have been strong and thought I was could fight through this because I was scared to take medication. I guess I was concerned of what others would think but I cant live like this. I find my self researching everything on the internet which isn't good I know. I've decided to make an appointment with a psychiatrist so I guess I was just needing some encouraging words because this is one of the hardest things I've had to endure in my life and it feels like it's never going to end. Thanks for any advice.
Britt
Hi Brittany
You're doing the right thing by asking for help. I've had this happen to me a few times, all the same symptoms plus couldn't leave the house. I like you tried everything I could, relaxtion techniques, trying to give it time but nothing worked. I had to start taking anti depressants and you know what they worked. From February to July this year I was an absolute wreck and I really didn't want to start taking meds again, when I finally gave in it was actally a relief. They took a few weeks to kick in but after that slowly but surely I started to feel better. Now I'm 95% I'd say back to normal, I still have the odd wobbly moment but all in all I'm back.
If you were physically ill you'd take a tablet right? If you broke your leg you'd have to go to hospital and get it fixed. This is no different, just because you can't see mental illness doesn't mean it isn't there or can be ignored. It's not weakness it's common sense. You WILL get better and this won't go on forever although it probably feels like that at the moment. Good luck!
Brittany, please look at the thread on this forum and join it have a look at how many folk are just like you,= Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram
look back at October last year and see how everyone got on taking the meds we were all too scared to start with now we dont ever want to come off them,
have a read and stay strong u will be fine after a few weeks,
Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram copy and paste it in and go thru the posts
take care Anne
Thank you so much that really makes me feel so much better
No problem, anytime you want a chat or advice just private message me here.
Same as what Brittany has just said!!! I tried too to get through all this by myself. Anxiety crept into my life back in feb and I thought I could make myself better, I really didn't want to take meds, After numerous visits to the surgery, about 6 weeks a go I gave in to my doctors request that I started on citalopram and I can honestly say it has transformed my life, I feel pretty much back to my normal self - be warned the first few weeks on these can make you feel pretty ropey.......but it has all been worth it. All the best! 😀
i mean what Louise said!!! Shame citalopram can't cure my lack if brain cells!!! 😃
Very similar story to me Kay. They are a godsend, didn't say that the first few weeks but I have absolutely no plans on coming off them now. I would also like to add that everyone is different, so it's important not to read too much into what other people say about meds in the negative sense. I've been on Seroxat previously and had quite a few zombie effects but Citalopram for me are marvellous.
Thank you. I'm so glad I found this forum because I felt all alone like no one understood what I was going through
You're definitely not on your own. It's a very common thing to suffer from as you can see from the amount of folk that post here. Anxiety and depresion make you feel so isolated, I found this place enormously helpful when I was going through it too. I still do.
Hi Brittany
I agree with everyone here too. Having epilepsy, diabetes etc or broken bones, you'd see a doctor and take medication to help - a nervous breakdown is an illness and is treated in the same way. People do try and cope with this on their own, but you need help and support.
I've taken this medication for 15 years and it changed my life. Having had a nervous breakdown, I struggled for 6 months before caving in and saw a doctor, had counselling, medications ...... but it wasn't until I was put onto this medication did I truly recover.
It's a vile illness - scary, bewildering, exhausting .... you're not alone.
If you get prescribed this medication, please be prepared for the side effects. People here will support you through it.
