I am very confused by this. I have a culture done last year in june for hsv and it came back positive, recently got a full panel STD screening and it came back negative under HSV 1&2. I've been on valacyclovir for some time and acyclovir before that. But I was on and off in the beginning, but from what I have read, antivirals should have no effect on your IgG test. Has this happen to anyone?
Any test could go wrong. I had different results with different conditions and test method.
Did ur doc confirm its herpes by visual diagnosis ?
she said it most likely was HSV2 so she decided to do a culture, which was positive.
It depends how much "off time" you had from the meds following your outbreak. What's the longest period you weren't on any meds?
MAYBE a month or two consistently off of it. On some forums people say antivirals can give you a false negative and some say it has to effect on your IgG test. So I am just trying to figure out how this could be.
Antiviral has effect on igg as it finds only antibody
Only 100% test is PCR dna during outbreak or culture test as both finds actual virus but has to be during outbreak only.
Your body takes around 3-4 months to develop full IgG antibodies naturally. The IgG test may detect it earlier. The antiviral meds, however, halt initial IgG antibody production, so if you have been on the meds consistently since your first outbreak with insufficient breaks to allow for adequate IgG antibody production, you may test negative despite being infected.
