I had a total hip replacement on the 10th of June and was home by the 13th. I kept up with the exercises. Everyday there was improvement. It's now been 9 weeks and I am virtually walking ok and free from pain. The only severe pain I had was on the evening after the operation. I have a spinal problem and having to lie on your back for so long is painful. Other than that the pain was minimal. I am 55 years old. The only down side is that I haven't been able to drive for 12 weeks.
Hi, I had a full hip replacment at the end of June, i was only scheduled to have a hip resurfacing but during the op the bone crumbled so they replaced the lot! my operated hip is fantastic, no pain at all and the scar is settling down into a nice thin line...only downside is because my other leg has been taking all the strain that hip needs replacing now as well, the sooner the better in my opinion and i never thought i would say that as i was terrified but i think i can safely say i am extremely glad i had it done and am looking forward to getting my life back to normal!
I am 50 years old and 4 years ago diagnosed with bilateral osteoarthritis and shallow acetabuli/cdh.
The pain and quality of life became so severe that I elected to have double hip replacements this year. I had my left one done in March and the other done in June.
I can honestly say I feel wonderful, I can walk about 1-2 miles before finding it tiring (I still walk with a limp) and I am not on any pain killers now.
Needless to say the consultants did point out my age being young and the need for revisions, but to be perfectly honest, I want my life now.
I'm 36 I had a THR on April 9th & was home on the 11th, my left hip was replaced , I'm on a walker & can't take steps or walk without it, I really can't sleep at nite due to having to sleep on my back keeping legs shoulder length apart, I'm unable to drive right now, has anyone had similar problems, plzzz share
Hi Shay2, have a look at my post on hip replacement, there's 52 comments on it so far, you'll see that it all takes time but you'll get there so don't be downheartened by it, I had my op on 5th March and I'm feeling great now, I too had trouble sleeping at the start, I spent many a night on the couch but now I'm walking at least 2 miles every day and hope to be back at work after my 12 week check up.
Since my post on April 14,2013.. I'm no longer on the walker I walk with a crutch or a cane, I've been released from physical therapy so I must be doing good, I tried walking by myself & I walk like a penguin lol, so that let's me know my hip needs more strength, its still too soon but I know it'll get better, I'm still not sleeping at nite, the most I sleep is 2 or 3 hours, but I do rest during the day if I do nothing but elevate my legs, , I'm glad they have blogs like this so you can hear what others have experienced with their hip replacements
