X-ray shows it is perfectly fine. So now i am going every 3 months for injections in the hip. I am completely baffled by this, and am doing therapy for my hip, which isn't helping. Am kinda lost on what to do. Sometime the pain is almost unbearable. I know after slmost a year and a half i should be healed by now.
I had Anterior too..Is it on the side of your operated hip, I get pain, some days really bad, it's bursitis..Surgeon only offered me shots! Good Luck.
My surgery was almost 16 months ago........
Hi brat
u do not give much info, what sets pain off, what can u do without pain. Have u asked for 2nd opinion preferably at Royal orthopaedic hospital in London either nhs or private - they are gold standard I believe.
regards dot
I had anterior, too, 4.5 months ago in US. Where is the pain you're feeling? When do you have it? Did it just start or have you had it all along?
Somethings definitely wrong....no matter what the X-rays show. Would also urge you to get a second opinion and go from there.
HI,
I had an R anterior thr 10 months ago and am experiencing excruiting pain in the top front of thigh going down to the knee. My operative leg is over 1 inch shorter than the other since the surgery. My surgeon sent me to a podiatrist who measures my legs and had custom orthotics made (one with a lift). They have helped at all. He did blood tests, no infection. He did x-rays and he said everything looks ok, but he sent me for an MRI to rule out loosening of the stem. I'm sure that will be fine as well.I keep ya posted!
Has anyone suggested that you might have Bursitics in that hip? Suggest mentioning that to your medical team and PT? Unfortuately it seems common with some of us. I feel your pain, believe me. Hope you get some resoluction
I may be quite off base, but I urge you to see a physiotherapist and get them to check if this your IT band. I had very similar pain which made it extremely dificult to straighten my leg effectivelt shortening my leg more than the actual LLD. The IT band runs from the top of your hip down past your knee and tightens very painfully when other muscles around it weaken - the case for many of us. If this is the problem it can be addressed very simply (although the therapy hurts like the dickens when you first begin). You use a massage stick or tennis ball to roll down your thigh applying as much pressure as possible. This helps break down the scar tissue which has built up and helps lose the band so you can start strengthening it getting it to move in concert with the rest of the surrounding connective tissues. Do this as often as possible throughout the day. It took me about 10 days to bring this to a tolerable level and about 2 weeks to resolve the majority of the proble.
I hope this helps or that you get resolution from the problem.
Hugs,
L
Does anyone know if you can get bursitis straight after surgery? And if you get it straight away can you weight bare on operated leg ?
Hi im 48yo and i know exactly how you feel I'm 3yrs post op LTHR i continued to have bad pain and limited movement so the cut my Left Sowas tendons and Abductor tendon in my groin help a little bit but im suffering server chronic nerve pain from the left side of my back, in my buttock down my leg and in my foot. The pain is so bad i am still walking on crutches and struggle to walk for even afew minutes without crying in pain. Im still on high doses of Oxynorm, Plaxia, valliuim, and more in it doesn't relieve the pain. The Surgeons can't find anything other than nerve damage is the only explanation so in about 6wks I'm having a Nerve stimulating device trial to see if it relieves my pain and if it doesn't they said this is it i'm literally stuck with this server nerve pain and groin pain that also causes my leg to give way and also have foit drop. I use to have a very active life and now i can barely walk i cry trying to do grocery shopping or clean the house. Ive had several falls down the stairs . If this is the best I'm ever going to be I'm at the point where i dont wanna live my life like this. There is nothing worse than telling doctors your in pain and they can't find why or do anything about it.
I really hope they get to the bottom of whats causing your pain and fix it before it become worse than you were. Good luck sending hugs and kisses
thanks Linda. I did therapy for 8 weeks post-op. Then I returned to work and tried to get back to my normal routine at the gym. The pain and limp started getting worse. The surgeon then noticed the leg length difference and referred me to a podiatrist. He said nothing about IT bands, He just kept saying that this is a long recovery (sometimes longer than others). My question to him was "Why am I in more pain now, and walking with more of limp than I ever was before?" The pain is mostly weight bearing pain, walking any distance is excrutiating. I used to walk miles before the hip replacement, and that is what I wished to get back to. He sent me for an MRI yesterday and I am waiting for results.
What a horrible outcome for you! I certainly hope that the nerve stimulation trial will resolve this for you and gI've more hope to othere sufferi g this way. Please keep in touch to let us know how you are doing and to tell us about the trial.
Keep strong and optimistic and if needed, go somewhere where you can bark at the moon without being hauled into the station - very therapeutic!
All the best.

I hope they get to the bottom of this - to have gone through the thr and recovery only to be undone this wayis awful. I am so sorry.
Hugs,

nurse called from the surgeon's office called and said results from the MRI were negative for prosthetic/stem loosening. Don't know where to turn now. I have a call out to the therapist to see if all this pain is from the leg length difference. Surgeon says he doubts it. I'm tired of being in pain and tired of limping! I was not this bad before the hip replacement. thanks for your advice and kind words.
I had it right after my first hip replacement, had a shot and it came back a while later. I would say a good couple of years. Now i have chronic bursitics and am seeing the sugeon soon. Its fustrating for sure. Hope u is just temporary
hi brat,
there are still so many questions here? can you shine a light on them? I had the impression that somehow the anterior approach to THR was a little superior to posterior one - no cutting of muscles, nerves or tendons, but serated for instance and less restrictions fo shorter time -
please let us know moere okay ...
big warm hug and warm welcome to our hippies forum and congrats for posting your first topic ..
renee
Hi Renee. The anterior approach is so much better than the posterior. There are very few limitations after the surgery. You can bear weight on your affected hip the day of surgery, if you can wake up, lol. There are so many advantages to the anterior approach. And this is the best way to go. Just make sure your surgeon has done this procedure quite a bit. Research your surgeon, and how many anteriors he or she has done. I have just had a lot of complications. But I am gonna get a 2nd opinion as to why I am still having so many problems. Anyone else that I have spoken with that has has a THR anterior, after 6 months they were totally healed and backed to their old selves. So this is the best approach and is less painful for the majority of people. I have just not been one of those people. I have had a very difficult time with this everysince I had it done. Best of luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.
Hi Sue. I am so sorry you are in so much pain. I know I have nerve damage. He hasnt said so yet, the x-rays come back perfectly normal and the new hip looks good, with screws holding it in place. but I know I have muscle and nerve damage, and struggle everyday with this. I am 53. I have always been very athletic, and now walking a hard task for me. I have gained weight, and am having heart trouble, and i know it is because I am not active like I was prior to all of this. My life had done a complete u-turn. My surgeon is overly sweet to me. I am beginning to wonder if it is because he knows he messed up or something, i am not for sure. But I have been having to go every 3 months and get injections in my hip, and I should have to do this after having a thr. I have the same symptoms as you have explained that you are having, but i also hurt severely exactly where my new hip is. I go back to surgeon this month, and am gonna ask why this is happening. Maybe the prosthesis he put in is to small or big for my size. I dont know. but if i dont get some relieve soon, I am getting second opinion. Take care and i hope that you can find some relief someway. Keep me updated please. Hugs
I do have bursitis in both hips, and get injections every 3 months for this. I get relief for about 2 weeks. My leg is to long, about an inch in a half. It was to short prior to the surgery. I have been experiencing falls, due to the hip getting weak, and i just fall. I am at my witts end. Thinking of getting second opinion. i really feel I have nerve and muscle damage. I go back to surgeon this month. So we will see. thank you so much
