I had bunion surgery 8 days ago

I had bunion and hammer toe surgery on both my feet 8 days ago. I have coped well with the pain. Had my first dressing changed yesterday, feet look straight but I have a lot of bruising.

Pain has been ok and I have been walking around in my post op shoes with the help of a walking frame . I got my walker boots today and was happy that I will be more mobile now , until I put them on. As soon I stood up and took my first steps I had this shooting excruciating pain in my big toe. Took th off and tried again an hour later with the same result . Has anyone else had this experience with the boot. I am now sitting with my feet elevated and in quite s lot of pain which I didn't have before .

Omg that is awlful. But I wud keep trying . Maybe ice foot first then put boot and even 5 mins every few hours you will get there. Has doc offered any advice cos they must have seen more everyday

He said it may be that I am not walking correctly

I am to see him next week to have my stitches taken out. Hoping he can tell me then why is this happening . As soon as I put the boots on the pain starts. Maybe my feet are not ready for them yet. I will try the ice and see if that will make a difference. Thanks

To be honest I think it is way too soon especially for the Hammertoes!!

I had 3 toes on each foot done 9 weeks ago and bruising is still significant!

I would hang fire for another week before trying again :-)

It is, no doubt, really tough. My surgery was over 6 weeks ago but I was first in a splint and then in a cast. . I now have a boot as well, but darned if I can walk using it. I think it does get better. I certainly hope so. I can't imagine telling folks 10 years from now that I had bunion surgery and never walked again. The great toe seems to be a real problem for me too but I don't have pain. It just doesn't work. Did you also get nuts, bolts and screws implanted?

Yes I have screw in foot for big toe and I have pin in hammer toe. I am getting about in boot . But it early days yet I think. I go back on Wednesday but not sure what is next. I haven't got cast just a bandage which seems very flimsy to me considering they have broke bone. Why are you in a cast
