I had my thyroid removed and feeling really tired all the time

since having my thyroid removed due to it being over active and suffering from graves disease i have been feeling terrible it's a struggle just to get up in the morning, i'm taking 100 mcg of levothyroxine 5mg prednisolone and 50mg Azathioprine. I had it removed in july and was just wondering if there is anything i could take to give me my energy back!!!!!!!! i hate the way i am feeling as i am constantly snapping and arguing with my loved ones and feel soooo low so if anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

thanks kelly

You can add vitamin D, 1000 mg to your treatment.  Most Graves patients are deficient in this.  the levothyroxine replaces only 1 of the thyroid hormones we normally produce.  You can question your doc about adding Cytomel to your meds or another type of thyroid replacement that combines T3 and T4 hormones like Armour.

Thanks Linda i forgot to mention that i am taking calceos that has cacium and vitamin D in it, but i will be asking my doctor about the 2 you have suggested. Thank you so much for helping me xx

Hi Kelly,

Firstly, let me say I really feel for you.  Low energy levels are such a difficult thing to deal with in this world of "high energy demands".

I personally have not had mine removed so I am only saying what I would do if it was me.  I would keep making appointments with your doctor and phoning your Endo' s secretary to make appointments to discuss how bad you are feeling.  It has to be physical and they may need to re-adjust your meds.  It will be time consuming and tedius for you but if they get it right it will make all the difference.  The problem is how long you have to wait between visits and that's what you need to shorten if possible.

Good luck

Thanks for reply and kind words it seems that i am not on the right meds for me so fingers crossed i will get the ones that work for me.

thank you xx

Hey! Not sure if anyone is going to see this or has, but found this through a search engine and am soooo curious as to how you're doing and feeling now... I've been in the same boat!
