I have a couple of problems since having my gb out

since having my op iv had right sided pain under my ribs.  also dull pain as per pre op on left side under ribs..diareah which i wish i could predict and causing problems with work and life in general,  also vomiting during the night and waking up chocking on it.  this vomiting may be acid reflux but im not sure.   does any body else have these symptoms post op.

OK First of all when did you have your gallbladder out?

I had mine out at end of April and they did say to me that I would get diarrhoea for a bit until my body got used to not having a gallbladder and not to worry about it, it would settle down.

I have not had any vomiting either at night or otherwise.

A bit of pain on right side sometimes like it was with gallstones but better than it was before I had gallbladder removed.

Still testing out what I can and cannot eat and which foods affect me.

Some people manage to get back to eating what they want to more or less straight away after the op but i am not one of them. It's really just a trial and error game.

Good luck with all this.

Take care and keep in touch

Sarah

I've not had my gb out yet, does problems with gb cause bad bloating in stomach and trouble eating feeling full and uncomfortable

Hi Loz when did you have your gallbladder removed? That pain can happen on and off for a number of months in some people. In most it will settle but there a

Sorry keeps posting as I'm typing on my phone. There are a small number of people who have pain on and off like gallbladder attacks long term. The diarrhea is common as Sarah has said it all depends on how long it takes your body to adjust. Some have it for 6-12 weeks some 6 months and other 12 months and there are some who lave it long term. I had my gallbladder removed 7 months ago and had the diarrhea and have been taking caltrate calcium 600 d 1 tablet 3 times a day with food. The calcium soaks up the bile. A lot of people who had the op take this and it works well. You start by taking half a tablet 3 times a day and after 5-7 days if there's no improvement take 1 full pill 3 times a day with food. Also psyllium husk powder is good too. I take this too as am afraid that diarrhea will come back. 8 weeks after my operation I developed horrendous nausea worse first thing in the morning when I wake up and after I eat. I also started vomiting every morning and was in and out of hospital having tests. All I've been told and can tell you is that it's a side effect of the operation. I've spoken to a number of people who had nausea vomiting and diarrhea. Most recovered at 6 months but a few had it for 12 months before it went. I unfortunately seem to be in this group as I stopped taking the anti sickness medication and starting vomiting again. Are you waking up at 4-5 am feeling sick? That's the way I've been but the meds are stopping me vomiting now and just have the nausea which is horrendous. My doctor has told me to expect to be like this until the year is up.hope this helps xx

Diane I didn't have those problems until my gallbladder was removed and

Sorry. Can only eat a small bit of food as feel full very quickly and also have the bloating too. My surgeon told me This after my operation and said to eat 5-6 small meals a day as opposed to 3 big ones as the body will struggle to digest the food. He also told me not to eat after 7pm! X

Hi Sarah sorry to hear it hasnt settled yet. I hope it all settles down soon for you. Take care xx

Oh right it's all a bit of a nightmare loldoes it also cause bad constipation as I have it really bad

thanks to everybody for your replies.  yes, i normally wake up at around 4/5am with vomit coming out of my nose and mouth and sometimes burning the back of my throat.  i havnt been to the doctors about any of these symptoms but do intend to, and with mention the tablets you have suggested.  also i seriously need to diet but too scared in case of diareah.  has anybody else gained weight post op?

Diane a good friend of mine had the same symptoms as you and bad Constipation. She had terrible pain and had nausea too. Her gallbladder was very diseases and shriveled up and had a very low fraction rate. She had it removed 10 years ago and is fine. Had very little side effects only a bit of indigestion And a little diarrhea. She was fine after 12 weeks but still has the constipation and takes medication for it. People with diseased non functioning gallbladder seem to have less side effects then those of us who had stones. X

I also had the burning too but have been taking milk thistle And it's brilliant. No more burning or indigestion. Are you vomiting bile? When was your op? I took antacids but didn't help at all. I haven't gained weight still only 95 pounds since the operation! X

Thank u acejohnsson, they say the lining of my gb is very thick

i had my operation in february this year.

thanks so much i will give that a try xx  i should be 9 stone but i am 12 and not happy wiht it at all

i had my op in february this year and to be honest all of my symptoms are getting worse.  but of course not everything may be related which is why i asked on here - thanks x

That's ok Loz. It's still early days. When did the vomiting start? Have you nausea too? Stick to low fat food and as little dairy as possible and nothing spicey. That might help the diarrhea. If it doesn't help try the caltrate calcium. I had the pains where the gallbladder was and there gone the last 6-8 weeks. It should go soon. I know a few people who vomited bile every day for 9 months and then it just stopped. Try sleeping on propped pillows too in case it's bile coming up your throat. Did you have gallstones? X

yes i did have gaulstones plus an infected gaulbladder -  thanks i will try proping up my pillows - the vomiting started around 6 weeks ago id say? xx

Mine didn't start until about 8 weeks after the operation. You should let your surgeon and d

Sorry! Let your doctor know too so they can do a scope to see if there's any inflammation there. Have you Any pains in your upper tummy at all? I had no upper pains just the vomiting and the burning and my scope was ok except for a small amount of bile which he said was not a cause for concern. I did vomit bile at the beginning and then had dry wretching and some days vomited up water and then would vomit after breakfast too. The doctors can give you anti sickness meds to stop you vomiting until it all settles down. Hopefully it will settle for you soon. X
