I have a large lipoma on my lower back. I've had a MRI, the doc looked at it and said nothing to worry about. I'm a nurse, I'm on my feet and at the end of my shift my lower back is pounding, my hips are hurting and my lower back will spasm. So in the meantime i take Naproxen, flexeril. These no longer help. Maybe another MRI is needed? Why does it seem to get bigger one day and feel the same other days?

hi, lipomas usually do not interfere with normal pelvic-spinal function, you should ease off the NSAIDs, ice pack it frequently post-shift and consult your chiropractor. it is possible that the tone of underlying tissues wil vary day to day, so that when you feel the lipoma, it will feel bigger if the soft tissues are in spasm and smaller when not.
take care

hi i have several lipomas in my back , at the top of my knee caps and one over my wrist i have no idea why their there and what causes them-but about 15 years ago i had several taken out from my back as like a lot of people i was having a lot of pain, i can say i didnt get the pain after nor did i get any post-op pain, but having spoken to the surgeon after he confirmed what they were and told me there is really no need to remove them as they groe back---- and yep their back but i dont get pain now maybe they were paushing on a nerve or something in the past, but i try to forget their there now. hope this is of some help.
hi i have recently had surgery to remove a large lipoma on the small of my back, it had been there for almost 13 years and had become increasingly painful, many doctors over the years had told me that it was 'normal' and something i had to live with but i can sympathise with anyone who is finding thiers painful, i was in agony with severe back ache sore hips and a constant bruised feeling, my advice to you is seek out a doctor that is willing to remove the offending lump, i am 2 days post op now and although sore from surgery can already feel a difference in my back. and i actually can see a difference, cannot wait to wear tight waistbands, something that i have had to avoid for years! good luck with any removals!
I had eleven small lipomas removed from the right side of my lower back a year and a half ago. They were painful, everytime I moved it felt like I had barbed wire in my back. Some of the lipomas were hard nodules that I could feel not too far below the skin. Pathology tests came back as angiolipomas meaning they had their own blood vessels. I had this pain for 20 years and it gradually got worse. I finally found a surgeon willing to remove them. Surgeon said as soon as he made incision and pulled on the muscle, these lipomas kept coming up through the incision "blossoming like a flower" because there was no room for them. The constant pain was they were being squeezed. The surgeon took photos of them before he sent them to the lab. I had the surgery shortly before I reached age 50.
Hello Sarah, I know it has been over a year since your post but I am hoping you can shed some light on your diagnosis. What was the diagnostic procedure used that the surgeon used to proceed with the surgery? An additional info would be helpful as I feel I may be in the same situation.
Hi there did you end up getting the lipoma removed or did the pain go away. I have a Lipoma in my lower back I am always on my feet due to my work. The pain is unbearable by the end of my shift get about 4 hours sleep a night. Waiting to see a surgeon been waiting for 8 months.
Hi just wandering did you end up getting it removed. I have been dealing with 1 in my lower back very painful some days I'm in that much pain I can't even get out of bed. Waiting to see a surgeon.
I have very similar symptoms and constant issues with back pain.
My problems seemed to have been triggered by a road accident some 5 years ago where I injured my neck.
Things soon started to cause problems of which I have had a few nerve denovations. Over the years I have had so many appointments with various experts, MRI
scans and all shows as ok. The common problem I have constantly been complaint of is the amount of lipomas all over my torso. No doctors or specialists have given the lipomas any real consideration and none will discuss zDercums?
Currently I am taking 600 mg of pregabalin topped up with NASDs.
Things at times are so bad that I feel like giving up work and crawling under a stone somewhere.
Hey gaynor, I am not the person you asked about the removal but I saw your post and wanted to say I had a large lypoma removed from my upper back around my neck. It was pressing against the area that was hurting my shoulder and neck so it was sort of not an option. The surgery was very simple, in and out in about 5 hours. My scar is about 4 inches long but that is nothing since I am full of scars...haha. It was a little tough to sleep at night for the first week because I like to sleep on my back so I had to make sure I was like on my side but other then that it healed very quickly and glad I had it done. Hope all goes well with you. <>--

I found out today the fleshy lumps I have at the bottom of my back are lipoma ... I have about 3 and one is larger than the others and tender to touch.. I also get very aching hips ... but I've been told it's due to my other conditions which are osteoporosis, 2 bulging disks , sciatica and inflamed sacroiliac joints. .. but I'm not convinced ... the aching hips have only been a problem since noticing these lumps..
try tumeric capsules. works for me no more pain and lumps are shrinking. had loads removed before trying tumeric.

Hi
I have a small skin coloured lump on my back only slightly raised from the skin, it's been there for years and an MRI hasn't raised any issue, what could this be? I have muscle pain in my back when I press around different places but don't know whether the two are related
