I am starting a new job soon and I am so nervous I am going to fail or look stupid. I cannot sit still or focus on anything. In my past I have failed at jobs, tests, friendships. So in my head, “why should this be any different”. I’m doing breathing exercises taking medication but still can’t seem to shake the impending doom that I feel is coming.
Does anyone out there have any advice?
Your concerns are quite normal, a change in employment can be frightening because it is a new start with new activities, bosses and people around you where you need to get used to new people and experiences.
Eventually given time you will relax as you learn your new job and all those new people around you. Go to work with an open mind on the understanding those people already there may feel the same way. Their only benefit is they all know each other and understand their place in the work environment.
Good Luck with the new job, new start and exiting possibilities
Keep a hold

You were calm enough during the job interview to be hired. Just stay calm the first day on the job and you will be fine from then on.
I think it’s natural to be nervous for the first day.. The day before get plenty of exercise outside and go thru the day in your mind. Keep telling yourself ‘you got this’!!! Which you do— they hired you!! Do plenty of deep breathing the morning of your first day. Just smile and relax, it’s your first day!! It’s true eventually you will relax as time goes on.. Best of luck!!
