I have been diagnosed with a massive fibroid

I am so glad to have stumbled on this page. Complements to its creator.

In 2013, I was informed that I had fibroids and a deformed uterus. The fibroids must have been small at the time because the doctor was not worried at all. However, he did inform me that because of the status of my uterus, I will make several hospital visits than normal during pregnancy. I have not attempted to have kids yet, so I can't even imagine how that will be like.

However, my issue currently is with the fibriods. On December 29th 2017, I went for what was supposed to be a routine annual check up. I've always considered myself to be as health as a horse. I did not feel that way on this day. Upon checking my abdomen, it turned out, I had a massive "thing" in there. I have always felt something hard in my abdomen, but had no idea it was a fibroid. I wasn't really sure what it was any way, but I had been perplexed as to why my tummy showed no signs of toning despite my intense workouts, with 20 minutes extra just for the tummy area. mass of muscle. My doctor  recommended a gynecologist's opinion, which I went for 2 days ago.

The Gyn only confirmed what the general doctor speculated, a massive fibroid. The Gyn also scared my by saying the fibroid is a big as a baby's head and needs to be removed as soon as possible. Frankly, I did not want surgery, as I did not want to jeopardize my chances of having children. However he said the mass is pressing on the other organs (liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen etc). I am confused at the moment because I do not want my hopes of having kids shattered, I also do not want to have any issues with any organ in my body.

The Gyn proposed a myomectomy , which I understand is the best option for those who want to have children as the uterus is left intact. If I decide to do this surgery, what questions should I ask the Gyn prior to the procedure?

Many thanks for the support!

sorry to read this, especially pre kids, how big is it? I had a child with a big fibroid.

Hi there,Sorry to hear about your fibroids. I must tell you that I quite understand as I had the same scare as you do but also  I had the most amazing, patient and understanding OB/GYN who  was not only  able to guide and encourage me in that regard but was also a part of my surgery team, in the end I did my myomectomy in September 2016 and my after reports indicate  that I am quite fit and ready to go on the path for having babies, I will be getting married this year, so thereafter  I will, having the right advise from your doctor helps greatly in matters of this kind.

All the best.

Hi 23375.

I had similar situation to you: I'm 33, want kids, couldnt work out why my stomach wouldn't reduce despite being active in the gym and exercising a lot in general. Turns out if was a huge fibroid- the largest my GP has come across. My gyny and I discussed options many times, and I was even referred to the radiologist to discuss emoblisation, but the risks to fertility are so unknown it just didn't seem a sensible option. Myomectomy, while it seems invasive in that they are cutting into the womb, came out (after weeeeeeks of deliberation, awful pain, long discussions and even trips to the private fertility clinic), as the best option. 8 days post op and I am confident it's the best decision I could have made. I desperately want a baby, but I couldn't live with that mass in my womb, it was affecting every single part of my life. The surgeon said that the op was a success and they removed all the fibroid, and my ovaries and tubes all look good. Now I'm advised to start trying in 6 months.

I hope this is helpful and that you find comfort in the fact that a lot of women do seem to have this issue, and many must go on to have babies.
