I have been diagnosed with frozen shoulder and have been signed off work for three weeks. Although I have visited my GP 4 times in the last two months and said I was having difficulty driving it took a third DR to sign me off. I'm worried about the amount of painkillers I'm taking, I have been perscribed Diclofenic, then Naproxsen and I'm also taking co-codamol about 6 a day. The pain in my arm and shoulder is constant and I can't bear to wear my bra strap, does anyone have any suggestions with regard to stronger over the counter remedies. I know I'm not able to take other ibroprofen with the medication. I have looked at all of the entries on the site and seems to identify with most of them to some degree!!.

Thank you for your comments carol, I have just visited my DR to request referral to hospital and am waiting on an appointment. I'm hoping for manipulation as I can't afford to be away from work for months! Not many people realise how debilitating and painful this condition is.I'm still getting pain especially at night and not sleeping well. Unfortunately my physio said I'm not getting any better so am hopeful of the orthopedic surgeon agreeing to manipulation. I guess we will all get better eventually!!! I'm off to try and have a nap!!

I've been suffering 6 months now. Pain like I've never known before- even drove me to tears! I too was refered to a specialist (took 10 weeks for that apt. to come thru' ...the injection never touched the pain & am now awaiting a general anaesthetic op. to manipulate my shoulder free (up to 12 weeks wait!). What has helped the pain albeit a double edged sword is taking BOTH the anti inflamatory diclofenac & the dihydrocodeine painkillers (both prescribed).Down side is nly 1 nightmare so far; one drug constipates & the other gives the runs...nausia is another side effect I suffer. So I get times when the stomach &/or bowel cramps just take hold for a day, 1 or 2 times a week. But I can now sleep thru' the night & am free of that awful pain!!!!!!!!!
I also use heat bags on it & hot showers to loosen it up in a morning.
Am getting physio once a week & am determined to avoid an op. as the condition is 'self limiting' apparantly, an op. seems overkill in my mind.
Hope this is of some help.
Liz

Thanks for your reply, I know what you mean about the pain!! My Gp seems to think that I will only wait a couple of weeks to see a specialist but I suppose it depends where you live. I wouldnt mind letting it run its course but I will go onto half pay in a couple of months so an op seems the quickest way forward. I have been taking Naproxen inconjuction with paracetamol& codiene from the chemist. If I have this regularly the pain isnt too bad, until night draws in when it seems to get worse. I have tried cutting down on the meds but this hasnt worked. My greatest fear is that once my left shoulder resolves itself, that i will get it in my right!! (I'm right handed)I'm constantly checking every little twinge!. I too have a hot shower in the mornings and am usuing a hot water bottle when necessary. Ah well I guess we must just soldier on, do you ever feel all you do is whinge I know i do!! Cheers kath

I have had a frozen shoulder for 3 months, pain is terrible, in shoulder blade, neck, part of the clavical and all the way down to the fingers, I have had 1 session of physio which as put me off for life, its too unbearable to do, everynights a sleepless night and I don't know what to do.

I've just checked the site after 2months back at work, so things do improve. I was hoping for minipulation under anesthetic but the consultant wasn't having any and gave me a steriod injection instead. I was so glad my husband was with me when he suggested it my legs went to jelly! I'm a total wimp! Anyway after about 10 days the pain started to ease and a couple of weeks later i returned to work. I still have some pain especially if i jar my arm unexpectantly and don't have a full range of movement especially when dressing and undressing, but it is getting better. I coped with anti inflammatories and painkillers and now 8 months on can manage without either. Chin up it does get better with time.
