I have been on Citalopram for 7 days now. Like some other people posting to this site, I have recently started to get a particular event in life out of proportion. I have had cancer twice in the last ten years and now every thing I get and then continues for more than 2 weeks I believe to be cancer and terminal. The thought of leaving my young family on their own then overtakes my emotions/thoughts. I am on 20mg daily and side effects have been nausea, loss of appetite and 4lb weight loss. Eating anything makes my stomach gurgle for the next few hours. I think the tablets have worsened my anxiety however have I taken some comfort from many of the comments stating that they do not often kick in straight away, and that the early days can be the worse for the side effects. I don't know if its just my overall anxiety/depression, but I feel better as the day goes on and quite relaxed by bedtime. I wake however in a cold sweat and complete fear of doom which lasts up until lunchtime - has anybody else experienced this.
Pete.

Hi Pete
I wrote in on 29th. At first my panic attacks seemed no better and I used to wake every morning with a sense of dread and palpitations, that seemed to go after about 8 days along with the majority of other side effects and I do feel a lot better now - I just relaised that its now 3 weeks since I started taking citalopram. I'm even going out tonight with the girls - I couldn't have done that a few weeks ago. I am getting my life back already however putting on loads of weight!!!

I thought others might benefit from my experiences having taken Citalopram for 7 weeks now. For the first 4 weeks I was on 20mg per day and nothing beneficial had happened. I have been on 40mg/day for the last three weeks and it is only now that my depression seems to be lifting. Side effects that are still continuing are sexual dysfunction, insomnia (condition has improved slightly over the past few days) and extreme tiredness every morning from around 1000 to 1200 noon. I still have cold sweats around 5am, but this is reducing. The biggest problems are the tiredness and lack of concentration. Motivation is slowly returning. I has some weight loss due to appetite being effected. Overall, although I found it depressing to have had to increase the dose, at last the citalopram seems to be working. Exercise helps, as does talking to those who understand depression. I wish all of you well!

hi Pete
I can really understand your anxiety considering what you have been through, Im on ciprimil and can confirm to you that it can cause you to feel more anxious as I have found out myself side affects affecting your digestive system are also very common, but I would still check with your doctor to rule out anything and to give you peace of mind
