i have been told I have menieres disease

i got MD (as I call) it six months age, been to a neurologist cost me 300 he said I have MD but you will need to go see a ENT now I'm just wandering what they do to you to come to a finding. Already had MRI can back clear I have all the systems for MD. I'm not coping to great with it have short breaks were I have nothing and cherish those day, until I do silly things like me hugging my parter and my head tilts back just that to far and it comes back for weeks then I'm back to blurred vision room moving walking like I'm drunk and nausea, but I must say I hate this constant buzzing in the ear I still can't drive a car confidently. If anyone can just answer what I get for my money with a ENT I would be greatful I'm  so sick of paying out I don't have a job so If it's  not worth going to help me I won't go

Hi Sarah, my view is the "specialists" examine and test you for the more common understood illnesses, i dont think there is a series of tests that can identify MD, this is certainly my experience, I was in Private Healthcare when I went to the ENT consultant,so didnt have  that money worry, and like you had clear MRI etc, so the deduction by the ENT man was as all was clear for the obvious ailments that only left MD,you are between the rock and the hard place, as if you are diagnosed with MD there is nothing definite they can do anyway, if its something more treatable and recogniseable you would be so pleased you went, I went to the audiologist department in Torbay Hospital and the woman there seemed to understand MD more than anyone I had previously consulted, and that was National Health, so maybe get a referral by your GP to you nearest audiologist before you fork out for Private ENT, the tinitus is a nightmare Im not to bad in company, or with a distraction, its when your quiet or in bed thats a problem

Good Luck, keep us informed theres loads of people willing to share their experiences and offer support and that helps

Hi peter I booked a ENT appointment,  I know what they will say I know it's MD I just have to learn how to cope with it,it's like being on a roller coaster ride, I need to try and get another job but I just don't know how to even start , my money is running out. Every day I just hope it will leave me alone. How does anyone else hold a job down?

Hi  Sarah, has your GP put you on any medication? the most common is Betahistine, 8mg up to32mg a lot of sufferers find this helps, keeps the attacks at bay, if not you ask for some, regarding a new job, I dont know your personal cercumstances but changing jobs is always stressfull no matter how your health is, but once again and I suppose like all illneses you have a choice whether to attempt to fight it or live with it, but of course the added complication with MD is if you are having a bad time there is nothing you can do as it wont allow you, but definitly talk through your medication options with your gp

Hi Sarah, One of my friends also having the same condition and she is saying that vertigo(or moving of the room) goes away while she has a shower or swim. Have you ever noticed this or could you try and let me know? It's quite interesting to know whether you experience the same.

Hi sarah, you will find loads of info on this site. It is so comforting to know you are not on your own.

I cannot work anymore; it bacame too much with the driving, then being taken ill at work. I hope you get on ok.

I still drive...read other threads...but dont do long journeys anymore.

Stay positive.

Good luck.

Are you in the UK?

If you are, you can see a ENT on the NHS, so you wouldn't have to pay.

But maybe you are in the USA

Anyway, when I saw an ENT, he booked me in for a series of tests, one where I was wired up to a monitor and I had to follow a series of dots with my eyes and another test where I had hot and cold water put in my ears - all this was to test my balance function.

In my case the tests came back normal...... but all my other symptoms led him to diagnose MD.

We then agreed the best way forward to treat the MD.  In my case a reduction in stress and a low sodium diet has worked so far.  But medication and surgical procedures can also be considered
