I have COPD and using inhaler Atrovent since 1.4.14 and wonder if anyone out there is suffering side effects such as worsening of swollen ankles/legs

I was getting fluid retention before as also have Diastolic Heart Failure but it does seem to me that my fluid retention is a lot worse plus I get a dry mouth and that is worse.

Hi Gillian.

Welcome to this miserable club.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

If you have been diagnosed with COPD get used to searching online (Google Etc) for answers because your Doc wont give you too many. Search Facebook for pages on COPD too as there are a few good support groups.

You will find that Dry Mouth is a known side effect of this med.

Swollen ankles are, in fact a side effect of COPD.

Try brushing your teeth & using mouthwash after taking your inhalers you should find that your mouth is not so dry. I also have swollen ankles & take Boots own diuretics they are herbal & it is one less chemical that you are putting in your body

Yes, I have been using Atrovent for about 6 months now and have now left foot and leg swollen and fluid retention.  I had no problems with many years use of Ventilan but they took that away as they said it had caised my SVT:  What can you do ? I dont know.
