I have just had a 24 hour ecg for nightime palpitations

I have just had a 24 hour ecg for night time palpitations.   Up to 7 times a night, which is exhausting.  I am also very restless and fidgety and anxious most of the time so my doctor thinks it is a side effect of the steroids.  Has anyone else had this and got any tips to help ?   I was diagnosed with PMR about 5 weeks ago and am on 10mg of pred.

I would say that your GP is probably right and that it is the steroids causing the problem.

I've had nighttime palpitations for the last 40-odd years and no cause has ever been found, it's just one of those things.  If they bother me now, I just do deep breathing exercises until it passes.  It does get all the nurses worried every time I have any kind of operation and I'm continually having to go for tests so that they can see for themselves that there's nothing wrong.

Hi Nefret.   Thanks for replying.    I cant begin to imagine what you have been going through for 40 years.  It has been bad enough in the short time I have been having them.    I will let you know when i get the results.

Jan, I use magnesium for restlessness, leg cramps and heart palpitations.  I take 200 mg at night with yogurt.  It works well with some calcium. It does relax.  Prednisone will do this....therefore the requirement of calcium and magnesium is higher for you body.  Give it a try.

Thanks Erika.    I have been taking magnesium and calcium twice a day for some time now.   I just had the results of my 24 hour  ecg.   I am told that they think it is my blood pressure that is causing the problem and so i may have to have a 24 hour blood pressure monitor now.   Was woken up 5 times again last night with pounding heart and feeling agitated.  Does anyone have this?  It takes me ages to get back to sleep, consequently i do not get enough sleep.
