Hello, I am seventeen years old male. I developed anxiety to poop. I used to poop normal, almost everyday I think (I didn’t think about it at all). For a few months now I am always in stress when I think about it. It is just like one day my body told me that I won’t get urge to poop no more and from then I can’t forget about it. But it is all in my mindset. It got better in Christmas because I had no time to think about it (Even though I did a little). I started count days from my last visit to toilet and when it gets over 3 (or I feel some need to go) and I still don’t get the urge I just go and push, but not much comes when you are in stress and do it only because you think you have to. That is crazy because I used to not even know when I took a ■■■■ last time. I always thought that my body is smarter. But maybe I am in lack of knowledge. I almost lost hope to get back to where I was (I would go when I need and everything would go out freely). What if I would not go to toilet for longer? Would I get the urge? What my organism would do? Have anyone experienced this problem? How can I get rid of it? I am lack of activities to have time not to think about it. Say something.
what’s happening is that you are over thinking all of this. The more you pay attention to it the more problem you will have with it.
it’s not your body that’s telling you that you won’t poop, it’s your mind telling you that subconsciously and then what happens is that you cant poop. When we get overly concerned about something like this, muscles in the body tighten up and nothing happens.
I suggest that you stop counting the days, make sure you are drinking a lot of water every day, eat foods that will help you to go such as raw vegetables, and get some exercise even if it’s just walking. The body needs to move so things inside move and come out.
you said you’re not very active so find some things to do that keep you busy. And your mind will be on other things and it will happen naturally. It really feels good to help somebody else out. Doing things for others gives you a good feeling and keeps you occupied.
your body is smart. But many times our thoughts and actions or lack of actions, can get in the way of it functioning properly. Don’t think about it just go about your life and it will happen naturally. But you got a follow the suggestions I gave you. When you don’t get enough fluids and roughage in your diet, or not enough exercise, things slow down and don’t happen. feel better.
Thanks for help. I will try to raise my activity level but due to coronavirus it is harder. I was going to school few months ago but now it is closed. So I sit at home for half a day and do my studies and those minds just gets into my head. But you raised my happiness level. I am more relaxed now. However, there is one unclear thing left. What if I would not go to toilet until I have no urge? Would the urge finally come? Or would I have to go and push it?
if you have no urge, maybe there’s not that much inside you. It should come naturally but don’t focus on it because that will increase your anxiety. Anxiety it’s self is known to cause constipation. So just let nature take it’s course. Like I said you really need to stay hydrated with water to get things moving. You should be able to take a walk if there’s nobody really around. But if you don’t have the urge , Don’t go in the bathroom and push and push and push because that can make matters worse. Relax your mind as much as you can so that all your muscles are more relaxed. Of course, if you don’t go for a very long time like a week or longer, just let your doctor know through a phone call and see what he or she suggests. Eating a lot of those fiber foods should definitely help you go! Take care
