I Have My Date

Hi All

In and out sort of poster - sorry

I am now having a steriod injection 6th July to put me over until after my 25th Wedding Anniversary and my THR date has been confirmed as 9th November - when to start panicing ????

A question or two that has been on my mind -

following the operation what is the average time (if there is such a time) before being allowed to drive again?

following the operation and given the all clear to drive - have you all gone back to your normal pre op car or has there been a need to get a larger car / 4 x 4 for ease of getting in and out?

Good luck to all

Most people can drive at six weeks. However you need to ask your insurance. Sometimes if you start early they won't insure you.

I have a Honda crv it's just perfect to get in and out of the car.and my knees and hip are straight.b/c if the bum is lower than your knees it's real hard to pull your self out of the car. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Ginger47520

Was that the car you drove pre op or have you moved to the CRV following the op for ease of getting in and out etc

Thanks

I actual bought it 2011b/c of total reconstruction of my lumbar back. I traded in my Camry.b/c it say me with the bum lower than my knees .I would have not been able with my THR to get of the camry by my self.

At first just trying to get off the toilet was painful. Then I got a riser for the toilet.if you have small car maybe a pillow on the seat would help.Lolo

Hi Dave you dont have to panic, the thing is you have Artheritis and need to get past it, driving is about 6 weeks, but if you are strong, like me, could be less, I have an automatic car, so easier, just get it done get pain free, and change your life for the better, I am already in half the pain that I was in, hope you can stay posting and cam come right soon.

Kind regards Ian.

By the way the Honda crv is a four wheel drive car. I call it my mini suv.lol I don't ever want any other car for me.

Hi, Dave,

First, I'm in the US so I'm sure some things are done differently.  Like when ginger replied, she said driving may depend on your insurance.  We don't have that restriction here. That being said.  I had THR five weeks ago and it went so smoothly.  I'm not saying everyone will have the same experience, but I certainly hope so.   I stayed in the hospital overnight and home the next day.  I was told by my doctor that THR is fairly straight forward and uncomplicated. I asked my doctor when I could drive and he said whenever I felt I was ready; no restrictions.  I was driving at the beginning of the second week. My husband was kindly taking me for rides to get me out of the house before I was out driving. I couldn't stand being cooped up for even a week. I have a small SUV which is easy in and out.  My fear was stairs, but they were not a problem. My orthopedic surgeon also places no restrictions/precautions (bending 90 degrees, crossing legs, etc) on his patients.

Before two weeks was up,  I was off crutches.  Started back to work at four weeks.

Best of luck with the steroid shots.  Also, happy 25th.  Hope you will be able to enjoy it.

Hi beccab107

Hope you are good over in the States all good here in the UK

You seem to have done remarkably well - keep it up my friend

I am considering changing my Mercedes E class to a SUV 4 x 4

I am beginning to struggle getting in and out of the E class so I think it's time to change

Good luck for the future

good morning Dave ... decisions, decisions ... SUV will probably be easier getting in and out of than a sedan ... I think you might be ready to buy one !!!

good luck and keep us updated ....
